​Responsibilities: 

  1. Source, evaluate, and recommend external managers, focusing on multi asset mandates (“MAM”). From time to time, mandates may extend beyond these.
  2. Understand fully external managers' strategies, identifying key drivers of return and risks, as well as strengths and weaknesses in all aspects.
  3. Conduct comprehensive performance analysis of these external managers to sieve out consistent performers.
  4. Monitor appointed external managers for MAM and other mandates, added over time, on both performances, corporate and investment team developments, and the mandate investment philosophy and process, with the objective of ensuring that these managers continue to perform as appointed.  Conduct quarterly call with these managers and provide key points for internal consideration with regard to company's overall investment strategy.
  5. Recommend actions on these appointed managers, if they have failed to perform as expected or due to adverse developments that will impair their ability to perform.
  6. Evaluate “change” proposals to investment strategy and process from appointed managers.
  7. Able to monitor market developments and its impact on various managers, and to recommend appropriate re-allocation within these managers, if appropriate.
  8. Assist in the construction of viable internal investment vehicles, via ETFs or otherwise, for implementing certain strategies/asset classes.
  9. Monitor, enhance and adapt the internal investment vehicle in response to changing market environment with verifiable analysis over multiple time periods.
  10. Learn from external managers with the view of incorporating best ideas and practices to enhance our internal process ranging from evaluation and monitoring of managers, managing and constructing internal investment vehicles, and crafting of investment outlook and strategy for investment program.
  11. Comply with all internal process with regards to execution and the introduction of new strategies and/or external managers.
  12. Undertake ad hoc projects to investigate investment issues, vehicles, unique investment mandate.
  13. Build and maintain good, close working relationship with institutional and private banking counterparties as source of ideas and data.
  14. Take on ad hoc role within the team, as needed.

Requirements

The individual should possess the following:

  • A good degree, preferably with professional qualification, like CFA, CAIA, etc.
  • At least 15 years of relevant direct investment and quantitative experience, i.e., in manager selection and monitoring as well as constructing and managing internal portfolio of ETFs, funds or securities. Verifiable good track record is an advantage.
  • A good understanding of capital markets, unique characteristics of asset classes, key attributes and differences in investment strategies within each asset classes (tactical and strategic), and wide appreciation of issues involving external managers' appointment. Demonstrating critical thinking in analysing reports and news would be an advantage. 
  • Actively managing the portfolios of external managers, such as rebalancing, reviewing their complementary characteristics, explore gaps in strategies among these managers, knowing full range of strategies from traditional, to smart beta to systematic investing.
  • Good analytical skills to determine viability of investment strategies adopted by external managers
  • Good computing skills to conduct comprehensive performance analysis.
  • A pleasant personality and good communicator, the person must have the drive to excel in tasks given. A fast and conscientious worker. Willingness to take on ad hoc investment and organizational (team) projects
  • A good team player with integrity, able to work independently as well as with colleagues in both offices. Versatile and positive attitude towards tasks given.
