Job Title: Corporate Strategy & M&A Manager
Team: Strategy & Partnerships
Location: Wellington
Reports to: GM Strategy and Partnerships
Job Purpose:
To identify and cultivate strategic growth opportunities for the organisation– including M&A, partnerships and joint ventures – to maximise the ability to achieve long term strategic objectives.
The Corporate Strategy & M&A Manager also contributes to Kiwi Wealth’s strategy development processes and works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure strategic objectives are effectively understood, progressed and ultimately delivered.
Responsibilities:
- Growth opportunities
Work with the GM Strategy & Partnerships to build a pipeline of market opportunities which support the corporate strategy.
Develop a network of key market participants, including consultants, investment banks and industry contacts. Keep aware of developments in the market to ensure that targeted strategies and solutions are identified and current strategies are kept up-to-date.
Evaluate opportunities in light of the impact on the current business model – be they maximising the core value proposition, extending into an adjacent market, or creating a new business.
Manage all aspects of transactions for Kiwi Wealth including valuation, due diligence, structuring, negotiation and business cases.
- Strategy development
Contribute to the ongoing development and management of business strategy in conjunction with the GM Strategy & Partnership
Provide advice and recommendations to GM & SLT, on strategic processes to improve the execution of Kiwi Wealth’s strategy.
Effectively influence ongoing process improvement and simplification to ensure operational excellence by always “challenging the status quo” and taking a customer driven and low-cost approach.
- Stakeholder relationship management
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure they understand and supportive of the Kiwi Wealth strategy.
- Strategy Education
Develop communication and educational tools to promote understanding of the Kiwi Wealth strategy across the organisation, and the linkages with individual objectives.
- Risk

Skills & Experience
- Academic
Bachelor’s degree preferred, advanced degrees (e.g. CFA) welcome
- M&A experience
Have completed numerous M&A or JV transactions and is involved in the transactions from start to finish, i.e. be part of deal origination team, deal structuring, due diligence, project coordination, valuation, negotiation, documentation, closing and settlement.
- Financial modelling and analysis
Strong corporate finance and technical capabilities, covering valuation methodologies, transaction funding, benchmarking with competitors, trend analysis etc.
- Strategy development
Broad experience and proven success in leading strategic development and delivery in a complex commercial environment. Good knowledge of strategic planning and investment principles.
- Collaborative
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across different stakeholders with high energy and a positive attitude. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a demanding, dynamic and lean organisation.
- Initiative
Ability to identify ways to improve processes and situations and take responsibility for improvements and solving problems.

Ability to communicate complex insights simply and clearly articulate recommendations in a variety of formats to a wide range of audiences.
