Dubai Angel Investors Limited (“DAI” or the “Company”) www.dubaiangelinvestors.me
is an international “micro VC” / angel investor group with around 80 investors and over USD 3.6 million of committed capital. We invest from USD 50,000 to USD 250,000 in selected early stage tech companies and invite our investors to co-invest with us. We seek to have a portfolio of over 30 companies by the end of 2019.
DAI is looking for a manager / administrator to assist with the management of its investment process and communications.
The candidate must be fluent in English (spoken and written) and will possess a business degree or MBA from a recognized university and will have at least 3 years’ experience working in a principal investing environment with a venture capital dimension. Knowledge of startup financing processes and documentation in addition to the manner of startup valuation will be a bonus.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and have a proven track record of managing multiple stakeholders and building relationships. The candidate must also be able to work fluently across Word, Excel & PowerPoint and be able to demonstrate experience of using online productivity platforms including MailChimp, SurveyMonkey, Doodle, DocuSign and live polling services.
The successful candidate will report directly to and take direction from the DAI Board.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
Applicant screening and selection
Organizing two informal meetings per month for DAI members to meet potential applicants as part of our initial pre-screening process.
Reviewing funding applications from pre-screened companies to ensure completeness, uploading applications to shared drive and ensuring that Investment Committee members vote to pre-qualify companies within the prescribed period.
Liaise with selected company sponsors to ensure timely invitation of selected companies to DAI pitch events.
Liaising with the DAI Deal Sourcing Committee (DSC), sponsors, the Board and the applicant companies with respect to the above.
IC / pitch night minute-keeping
Organizing one monthly pitch event in addition to occasional ad-hoc meetings of the Investment Committee.
Ensuring timely issuance of invitations, monitoring of acceptances and arrangement of logistics (venue etc) as well as attendance and minute-keeping at such meetings in keeping with the protocols and procedures of the Company from time to time and in the form prescribed by the Company.
Designing and administering live polling for the pitch night events.
Preparation of monthly PowerPoint pitch night slide deck and a post-pitch-night update and slides to be circulated to members.
Assisting the board members with communications with the Company’s members, applicant companies, its portfolio companies and its internal committees as required. This will include mass mailings as well as bilateral communications.
Preparation of PowerPoint presentations for external events and meetings and assisting in the maintenance / updating of the Company’s website.
For companies that are selected for investment (by the Investment Committee), assisting the Sponsor to issue the required due diligence questionnaire and following up with the companies to ensure their compliance with DAI’s DD requirements.
Transaction documentation & compliance
Assisting the Board & Company Secretary in undertaking compliance exercises that might be required from time to time relating to its members or prospective members.
Assisting the Company Secretary and/or Chairman with the drafting of resolutions for the Board connected with corporate actions of the Company.
Portfolio management and financial reporting
Maintaining a diary of deadlines, milestones & reminders relating to events connected with the Company and its portfolio companies.
Liaison with the Value Creation Committee (VCC) in relation to its work on the monitoring and interaction with portfolio companies and their DAI sponsors.
Working with the Board to prepare 2x half-yearly portfolio updates in the form of (1) an annual Portfolio Report and (2) a half-yearly Interim Portfolio Update.
Maintenance of financial accounts
Ensuring the timely filing of expenses and liaising with the Company Secretary Board members on matters connected to maintenance of the Company’s accounts.
Maintenance of books, records and administration of Member general meetings and Board meetings
Administration, maintenance and updating of the Company’s database of members, maintain its repository of corporate documents etc.
Supporting the Company Secretary in calling and convening of Board and Member general meetings, keeping minutes and drafting, circulating and collating resolutions and maintaining the books & records of the Company.
