We are seeking to recruit a Research Associate (RA), who will be based in Hong Kong as part of the Global Industry Research Healthcare Team. The healthcare market encompasses over 1,000 companies with a combined equity market capitalization of close to US$5 trillion. The Team manages assets in excess of US$62 billion over a variety of long-only, long/short, and private equity client mandates. The focus of this assignment will be on researching healthcare companies in Asian emerging markets, working closely with the senior healthcare Global Industry Research Analysts on the Team.

Responsibilities for this position will include the following:
  • Performing continuous due diligence on healthcare companies located in China, India, Korea, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia
  • Staying abreast of important macro and health policy developments in these countries
  • Creating and maintaining detailed financial models to aid in analyzing existing and prospective investments;
  • Attending company meetings, investment industry conferences, and healthcare specific conferences;
  • Completing complex analytical projects under tight time constraints;
  • Maintaining the integrity of industry and comparative valuation models;
  • Contributing to written research; and
  • Making investment recommendations to the Health Care Team and other global investment teams

We are looking for a self-directed, hard-working team player with a passion for both the healthcare industry and investing in emerging markets.  This position is appropriate for an individual with strong analytical capabilities, good financial modeling skills, and an eagerness to apply their expertise in support of Wellington's healthcare investing in Asian emerging markets.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree with a strong academic record;
  • 2-4 years of investment research experience, ideally within the healthcare industry strongly preferred
  • Sound judgment, strong work ethic and highest personal and professional integrity;
  • Demonstrated analytical ability;
  • Excellent financial modeling and accounting skills;
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in the face of uncertainty;
  • Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize time well;
  • Strict attention to detail;
  • A passion for investing;
  • Effective communications skills, both written and verbal;
  • CFA or progress towards completion of the CFA;
  • MBA or advanced degree in a biomedical discipline would be additive;
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese
