SWIB is seeking Managing Director to lead its Asset & Risk Allocation Division. Reporting directly to the Chief Investment Officer, the Managing Director will work with the heads of public equities, public fixed income, private markets, and multi-asset to determine investment policy and strategy. With an innovative focus, the incumbent provides strategic leadership and manages a team of asset and risk experts focused on functioning as a strategic partner for the organization.

 

Essential activities:

  • Maintain the analytical framework for developing the asset allocation recommendation for the Board
  • Monitor the asset allocation drift and make recommendations to the rebalancing committee to make adjustments; chairs the rebalancing committee
  • Develop and maintain the investment playbook for tilting exposures to equity, fixed income, currency and systematic factors to maintain active risk within asset class and sub-asset class risk targets
  • Maintain the analytical framework for developing and monitoring active risk and drawdown budgets
  • Manage the Asset & Risk Allocation staff; recruit, coach, and develop investment talent to support division strategies
  • Participate in presentations and meetings with various SWIB constituencies
  • Serve on strategic committees

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree and/or CFA preferred
  • 15+ years of experience in an institutional asset and risk allocation function
  • 10+ years of experience leading teams
  • Experience with asset/liability modeling to develop asset and risk allocation solutions
  • Deep understanding of quantitative analysis and computational techniques and a demonstrated ability to apply the techniques to asset allocation, risk management, portfolio construction, and risk budget
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An ability to be adaptive and thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Superb work ethic, attention to detail, team orientation, and commitment to excellence

The position requires U.S. work authorization and residency in, or willingness to relocate to, the Madison, Wisconsin area. SWIB is prepared to offer relocation assistance as needed.
