Sterling Capital is seeking a client-facing portfolio manager for its equity portfolios.  This role requires the ability to communicate our investment process and equity market conditions while building superb relationships with clients and assisting the sales team on interactions with investment consultants and prospects.  A solid understanding of the equity business and several years of related client service, marketing or portfolio management experience is required.  Responsibilities will involve frequent travel for face-to-face client meetings and some marketing responsibility.  This role will be accountable for meeting a wide array of client needs and partnering successfully with our equity teams.  Effectiveness in accomplishing this role will determine if the position will be located in our Virginia Beach or Charlotte office.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and build client relationships by spearheading all scheduled and ad hoc interactions (phone and e-mail), conducting in person portfolio discussions and initiating social opportunities
  • Assist the sales team with marketing to prospects and consultants, including finals presentations where necessary       
  • Coordinate development of client presentation materials and performance reports
  • Assist as needed with development and enhancement of marketing materials
  • Review general communications with clients such as quarterly commentaries
  • Review RFP and database responses
  • Understand and concisely relay each equity teams’ process, products and strategies

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience
  • Strong equity markets knowledge base
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and professional presence with demonstrated ability to build relationships              
  • Excellent communication skills:  verbal, written and listening, with the ability to convey credibility, confidence and trust
  • Team player who is self-motivated and able to work well with diverse individuals and within various group dynamics
  • Well-organized, flexible and good at prioritizing

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • CFA or other professional designation preferred
