Franklin Templeton, one of the world's largest investment management firms, is looking for a Junior Trader on the Multi Asset Solutions trading team in San Mateo, California.

The Jr. Trader is primarily responsible for assisting senior traders with trade execution and other related activities. The Jr. Trader will gain familiarity with market structure, develop an understanding of electronic trading strategies and the various nuances of different asset classes. The Jr. Trader will be mentored by a Sr. Trader as part of their development process.

The role of Multi Asset Trading is an integral component of the investment process through trade execution and opportunistic market insights that will add or preserve alpha. As part of the larger Multi Asset Solutions (FTMAS) team, trading personnel will leverage the full spectrum of expertise available within the group in order to maximize the value of our people and technology assets to make more informed investment decisions.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:
  • Assist senior traders with trade execution and other trading support functions and activities.
  • Develop a working knowledge of market structure across asset classes, including equities, fixed income, derivatives, and others.
  • Develop internal and external relationships with the FTMAS team, brokers, etc.
  • Develop a general knowledge base about markets, asset classes, and our processes, including internal systems, etc.
  • Keep senior traders apprised of any pressing trade issues.
  • Develop intelligent market insights and provide timely, accurate and useful market color to portfolio managers, analysts, and senior traders.
  • Develop the needed skill-sets to make value added trading decisions.


Qualifications
Requirements:
  • 1-3 years of experience in the finance industry with working knowledge of the investment management business and trade execution strongly preferred
  • Progress towards CFA designation
  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited university with a GPA above 3.4
Other:
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills which are essential to this position
  • "Trading desk intangibles" such as positive attitude, enthusiasm for trading and financial markets, strong work ethic, and high level of integrity
  • Ability to multi-task with extremely high attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to resolve complex problems under pressure
  • Working knowledge of Excel and Bloomberg are required
  • Programming skills in languages such as R, Matlab, Python, Java, C#/C++ are preferred, but not required
