SunTrust Bank is seeking a Global Macro Economist/Strategist who will be a part of Private Wealth Management’s (PWM) Investment Advisory Group (IAG) and report directly to the firm’s Chief Market Strategist. IAG is responsible for the creation of investment guidance and portfolio solutions designed to help meet its affluent, high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients’ wealth goals. 

The Global Macro Economist/Strategist will work in a team environment to develop and communicate the firm’s global macroeconomic, capital markets outlook, and asset allocation recommendations using quantitative and qualitative research. The Global Macro Economist/Strategist will work closely with their immediate team as well as economic, fixed income and equity thought leaders to:

• Develop and maintain research frameworks and models for the coverage of global/regional macroeconomic trends (economic growth, interest rates, currency valuation, and commodity price trends)

• Conduct research studies incorporating long- and short-term themes and market dynamics

• Develop insights and recommendations on the movements of the global economy and markets 

• Identify strategic and tactical opportunities

In addition, the Global Macro Economist/Strategist will be responsible for utilizing research for the regular generation of publications focusing on the global economy and markets that are used by both internal and external constituents as well as to prepare white papers and other commentary including special economic/market studies. The Global Macro Economist/Strategist is also expected to travel on a frequent basis for meetings and events. 

A successful candidate will be experienced, resourceful, intellectually curious, team oriented, and client-service minded with superior presentation skills and expert organizational, technical systems and written communication skills.

 Job Description

• Develop and maintain research frameworks and models for the coverage of global/regional macroeconomic trends 

• Create and maintain quantitative and statistical reports used for the identification of macroeconomic and market trends

• Global macroeconomic and capital markets research and asset allocation recommendations

 

• Actively participate in strategy meetings with supporting documentation and rationale 

• Assist with the production of written materials in support of investment strategy and global economic/market outlook

 Business Development, Investment Communications and Marketing:

• Play a key role in communicating the IAG’s macroeconomic investment outlook and strategies through written communications and frequent public speaking to internal and external audiences

• Establish and maintain influential relationships with investment professionals and management at all levels of the organization

• Work with Corporate and PWM Marketing and Investment Communications to ensure communication needs are met

• Assist in the development and distribution of internal and external client materials (including special studies and research assignments, e.g., topical white papers)

 

Minimum Requirements:

• 10 or more years of relevant global macroeconomic and asset allocation analyst or related experience

• 4-year undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics or other similarly analytical concentration 

• Broad knowledge of global macro, investment and market-related concepts

• Strong analytical and communication skills

• Expert technical systems knowledge

• Ability to travel greater than 50% of the time

 Preferred Requirements:

• Strong academic pedigree, e.g., MBA, PhD &/or other post-graduate degree from top-tier academic institutions

• CFA Charterholder or other relevant designations

• Prior positive media exposure &/or track record of publishing global economic/market research for recognized global wealth provider

• Successful track record of translating complex analytical information into understandable terms for investment advisors, clients and other audiences

• Experience with investment research tools such as Factset, Bloomberg, Thompson One, and Haver Analytics 

• Highly skilled in MS Office PowerPoint and Excel 

• Fluent in Spanish and Portuguese
