Wellington Alternative Investments (WAI) sponsors and sub-advises a broad array of long/short equity, multi-strategy, global macro, and relative value hedge funds that invest globally across all asset classes. WAI Fund Services (WAI-FS) is responsible for the financing, accounting, and operations for these hedge funds.  WAI-FS is comprised of three teams: 1) Fund Administration; 2) Treasury, and 3) Audit and Financial Reporting.  The WAI-FS Treasury Analyst will manage report to the Treasury Manager of WAI-FS.  This role will require frequent interaction and collaboration with other Wellington teams, prime brokers, custodians, clients, third party fund administrators, and the funds' auditor.
Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for certain financing and hedge fund related topics, analyze and resolve complex issues, and respond to inquiries on a broad array of business issues
  • Analyze stock/loan metrics and data, optimize financing costs and collateral usage, perform margin analysis and projections to assist in the portfolio management process
  • Advise portfolio management and clients on methods of implementing financing strategies for various product types
  • Identify and lead initiatives to implement technology solutions to streamline operations and enhance controls
  • Implement new procedures and enhance existing processes both internally and at service providers to support evolving needs of the business
  • Closely manage prime broker and custodian service provider relationships
  • Keep apprised of hedge fund industry developments as they relate to financing, prime brokerage, custody, risk management, and service provider oversight
  • Strategically diversify risk across counterparties while ensuring the efficient management of financing costs, counterparty balance sheet impact, and collateral usage
  • Launch, close, and restructure hedge funds and other alternative products
  • Work closely with other Wellington teams including Product Management, Client Service, Trading, Portfolio Management, Derivative Operations, Corporate Actions, Portfolio Services, Legal & Compliance, and Tax
Job Qualifications
  • College undergraduate degree, preferably in finance, economics, accounting, or business
  • 8-10 years of industry experience
  • Strong project management skills with significant experience leading cross-functional initiatives
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities while working in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Advanced Excel and Access skills, or a desire to develop them in the context of analyzing/managing large amounts of data
  • Very strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • A client service mindset and strong communication skills
  • Previous work in a custody, prime brokerage, fund operations, or treasury related role is preferred
  • Previous experience managing service provider or client relationships will be viewed favorably
  • Technical knowledge of hedge funds, complex financial instruments, custody, and/or financing is considered a plus
  • A natural curiosity and desire to expand one's knowledge and role
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, performing multiple tasks and balancing competing priorities
  • Possession of or progress towards a CFA or MBA is a plus
