Description of the Business Line or Department

The APF team provides commercial, financial advisory and private capital arranging services for transactions in the energy sector: oil & gas and petrochemicals and power (thermal and renewable). The team covers Europe, Middle East and Africa from offices in London and Paris.

Summary of the key purposes of the role

To assist with:

• origination and execution of commercial and financial advisory opportunities
• winning mandates for private placement of equity
• developing an investor base and to solicit investor interest for placing project equity
• lending opportunities, both their origination and execution
• cross-selling of SG products
• compliance, KYC, credit, legal and other house-keeping activities that go with the job

Summary of responsibilities

Financial Modelling, Research
• To independently build financial models and to produce a satisfactory first draft of pitch books
• To be able to research and identify suitable investors
• To assist with identifying, developing and marketing of new ideas
Drafting and Documentation
• To produce a satisfactory first draft of term sheets, internal memos, basic marketing material
• To draft credit applications with supervisory support
• To be able to negotiate NDAs, assist with negotiation of mandate letter, investment and loan agreements, in all cases with legal and senior support
Client Interaction
• To independently deal with junior execution staff of clients and investors
• To identify relevant market trends, pick up market intelligence and to assist the team to anticipate and be pro-active
• To assist with drafting and evaluation (qualitatively and quantitatively) of ideas
• Compliance and Regulation
• Perform all required training on time and maintain good and up to date knowledge of GLFI Compliance and Conduct Handbook
• To be on top of compliance and regulatory requirements, internal and external
• To be able to help juniors to navigate through internal processes and approvals

Level of autonomy and authority

Issuing NDAs, pitches, financial models, with appropriate disclaimer and with prior approval of a senior member of the team.


Profile:

Competencies 

Technical:
1. Satisfactory knowledge of the energy industry;
2. Ability to value asset-based investments using comparisons, DCF and other relevant metrics; 
3. Ability to write clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive term sheets, marketing and decision material; 
4. Ability to assist with assessment, structuring and documentation of an investible project;
5. Good understanding of energy clients, equity investors and banks;
6. Knowledge of regulation and conduct rules, as well as SG's internal guidelines and business principles;
7. General understanding of banking products to assist with cross selling
8. Capacity to understand risks (conduct, reputational, financial, etc.) and act responsibly in line with SG Group Values, Code of Conduct, and other applicable rules & regulations

Work Experience

• Demonstrable experience of building complex financial models independently and to value businesses/companies 

• Experience of drafting and pitching as part of a deal team

• Client interaction and or dealing with investors, under supervision

• Understanding of oil and gas and or power would be desirable

• Experience of working in an M&A advisory boutique or a M&A or Equity Placement unit of an investment bank

Education 

Good first degree (sciences, engineering or business preferred) from a leading institution

Masters level qualification in finance, CFA or a Chartered Accountant would be beneficial

Languages

English (excellent, written and verbal)

French useful; other languages an advantage
