Senior Portfolio Manager - Commodities
The Pennsylvania Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS, www.psers.state.pa.us/), located in Harrisburg, PA, is seeking candidates for the position of Senior Portfolio Manager - Commodities. The organization currently has approximately $51 billion in assets under management that are invested for the long-term benefit of its members.
The position will oversee, manage, and implement PSERS’ allocation to commodities (which includes not only the general commodities allocation but also the dedicated gold allocation).
The role will have key input into PSERS’ strategic asset allocation decisions and tactical asset allocation decisions with respect to commodities. It will determine the most efficient and effective means of implementing these decisions. It will determine appropriate benchmarks, expected return and risk targets, and other performance parameters. It will be responsible for ongoing reporting to senior staff and the Investment Committee of the Board.
The position will also support the commodities allocation resident within the internally managed Risk Parity portfolio and be involved with PSERS’ allocation to energy MLPs.
This role requires frequent communication and interaction with other internal portfolio managers, external investment managers, the risk management group, strategic partners, investment consultants, investment operations, investment accounting, and legal.
This position reports directly to the Deputy Chief Investment Officer – Traditional Investments. The senior portfolio manager will be part of a larger investment team of over 40 individuals; strong interpersonal skills and collaborative work ethic are essential.
The minimum experience and training requirements are: Two years as a PSERS Manager; or a Bachelor’s degree and six years performing relevant traditional or non-traditional markets investment work; or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Successful completion of any of the following professional accreditations may be substituted for relevant work experience: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) 1 year per level passed; Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) 1 year; Financial Risk Manager (FRM) 1 year per level passed; or Professional Risk Manager (PRM) 1 year.
Preferred qualifications include successful management of a commodities portfolio, with both hands-on internal management and experience making allocations to external managers, at an endowment, foundation, pension, or other institutional allocator of capital.
The salary for this position is $182,084 to $280,393 and is negotiable based on experience. Compensation includes an attractive benefits package.
