The Head, Journal Publications will lead global content development related to peer-reviewed publications at CFA Institute (including the Financial Analysts Journal and CFA Digest) by balancing investment theory and practice as well as providing depth and breadth to help CFA Institute members maintain and improve their life-long professional competence.On an ongoing basis, this position ensures the quality and relevance of journal content and the editorial content process and partners with our Content Engagement; Publishing division to develop an effective journal publications strategy. It also provides subject matter content development support for our suite of publications as well as for other research functions, such as the CFA Institute Research Foundation and Future of Finance.   Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as Managing Editor of the Financial Analysts Journal
  • Manage the editorial content process including overseeing the peer-review process
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Editor including establishing editorial themes and priorities and evaluating papers for suitability
  • Ensure the quality and relevance of published articles in line with CFA Institute mission and goals
  • Recruit, develop, and work with the co-editors, Advisory Council members, Editorial Board members, and reviewers
  • Partner with the Publishing & Content Delivery division to develop strategy for effective targeting of journal publications.
  • Maintain an awareness and understanding of topics currently of interest to practicing investment professionals
  • Objectively evaluate and dispassionately critique work of investment industry and academic luminaries and others
  • Interact comfortably and confidently in both the practitioner and academic communities
  • Establish and maintain a network of potential authors and other contributors
  • Write Editor’s comments on changes and improvements
  • Manage the Graham and Dodd Award process
  • Support the development of publication themes and provide subject matter expertise and editorial support as required
  • Coordinate with other research functions (including the CFA Research Foundation and Future of Finance)
  • Collaborate on efforts related to educational content across the organization

Key Qualifications include:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Business/Economics with strong quantitative coursework, or an equivalent combination of education and research industry experience. PhD preferred
  • Significant finance/investment industry experience
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation required
  • Strong track record in peer-review journal processes, preferably in an editorial capacity
  • Ability and confidence to objectively evaluate and dispassionately critique work of others, including investment industry and academic luminaries 
  • Ability to interact confidently and establish credibility in both the practitioner and academic communities
  • Willingness and ability to maintain and strengthen the established network of thought leading investment professionals and academics
  • Awareness and understanding of global financial markets and topics currently of interest to practicing investment professionals
  • Ability to translate technical research and ideas into easily understood formats and language for broad appeal across multiple audiences beyond the Financial Analysts Journal readership
  • Demonstrated outstanding stewardship and relationship building/management skills to expand the mission of CFA Institute

The position may be located in Charlottesville, VA, New York, NY, London or Hong Kong and will be supported by the Head, Industry Research.
