The Pennsylvania Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS,, located in Harrisburg, PA, is seeking candidates for the position of Senior Investment Professional – Risk Management. The organization currently has approximately $51 billion in assets under management that are invested for the long-term benefit of its members.

This Senior Investment Professional will primarily be responsible for quantitative risk analysis of the Fund as a whole as well as each individual asset class. Where available and applicable, position-level granularity of individual holdings, portfolios, and partnerships will be the basis for risk analysis.  This position reports directly to the Senior Risk Manager.

The role has a significant quantitative investment component concerning fundamental data modeling through risk reporting from the risk system and supplemental systems.  The role also has a significant qualitative component in the form of operational tasks related to risk reporting quality review and in the form of administrative tasks related to documentation of risk modeling, reporting, and data controls.

A candidate should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the multi-faceted nature of an enterprise risk management program, including (i) market, fund/portfolio, liquidity/leverage, counterparty, and operational risks, (ii) the particular application to the Fund’s large portion of internally-managed investment strategies, and (iii) the process of identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring and documenting these various risks and the related internal controls.  In addition, an in-depth understanding of derivatives is necessary, with practical application/exposure preferred.  A candidate with an understanding how a risk factor-based framework would apply to Fund-level risk reporting and analysis is ideal.

Required qualifications include either: a bachelor’s degree and four years or more of relevant work experience in the investment industry, preferably at an endowment, foundation, pension or other allocator of capital, and successful completion of a financial risk certification program (i.e. FRM, PRM, CFA); or five years or more of relevant work experience in the investment industry and successful completion of an advanced certification/education program.  Experience working with various analytical software solutions (e.g. BlackRock Solutions, MSCI Barra and Bloomberg port) is strongly preferred.

The salary for this position is $113,331 to $162,055 and is negotiable based on experience and credentials. Compensation includes an attractive benefits package.
