Role Summary

The purpose of this position is to contribute to the investment manager evaluation process. The candidate will support the Global and US Equity Manager Research teams within the Investment Division. The Manager Research teams’ analysis and rankings inform the investment decisions of Russell Investments’ multi-manager funds and support our recommendations to consulting clients. This position is intended to work with significant guidance from the senior analysts and include high levels of interaction and engagement with all global and US equity team members.

The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:

  • Analysis of equity managers by generating output from analytical tools and working with senior research analysts to assess manager investment philosophies and processes
  • Provide effective meeting agendas to be used in review of equity management firms, in conjunction with senior research analyst conduct meetings with investment management firms
  • Provide timely, detailed, high-quality documentation of manager research analysis written in a manner that is useful for consulting clients and fund managers
  • Provide feedback and participate in discussions about analysis produced by other members of the research team
  • Develop recommendations of investment manager rankings subject to senior analyst review
  • Collaborate with Russell Investments’ portfolio managers and engage in discussions that help determine fund positioning. 
  • Cooperate on broader Investment Division initiatives that involve colleagues outside of the equity research teams
  • Contribute to Russell's client service, marketing, and/or public relations efforts
  • The position will require some travel to meet with investment managers

The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Business, Economics, Finance or related field
  • CFA candidate, or interest in pursuing a CFA charter, preferred
  • Intellectual curiosity and critical thinking are paramount, the role requires an ability to make investment cases based on qualitative and quantitative factors
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to communicate clearly on investment topics
  • Preference for candidates with at least two years experience within the investment industry. Experience as a portfolio analyst, investment consulting analyst, trader, research associate or research analyst may be applicable
  • A strong interest in the capital markets and investment instruments, especially equities
  • Knowledge of statistical method
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and use investment finance software and tools, including a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
