Private Investment Analyst for UNC Management Company

Company and Position Description:

UNC Management Company (“UNCMC”) is a leading non-profit investment management firm managing approximately $5.5 billion on behalf of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and other UNC System schools.  UNCMC invests globally and has built a diversified portfolio across public and private asset classes.  The Private Investment Team manages buyout, growth equity, venture capital, real estate, private credit, and energy & natural resource investments.

Private Investment Analysts work closely with senior management in a flat organizational structure and participate in all aspects of the investment process including asset allocation, portfolio construction, and manager selection.  Analysts play a vital role on our investment teams, gain exposure to all private investment asset classes and strategies, receive intensive training in core investment management skills, and interact with premier investment managers.



  • Assist in identifying, evaluating, selecting, and monitoring investments, including performing due diligence on managers and direct investments.
  • Actively participate in meetings with leading investment managers.
  • Draft internal and board level memoranda detailing investment recommendations and actions.
  • Conduct investment research on private investment asset classes.
  • Maintain investment databases and generate internal and client-specific reports.
  • Participate in determining portfolio-level asset allocations.


Candidates should possess an exceptional collegiate academic record, strong quantitative abilities, excellent computer skills (advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), and superior oral and written communication skills. Candidates must also have a sound understanding of basic investment concepts and an interest in and commitment to pursuing a career in investment management. Other important factors include the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment while also working independently, a keen attention to detail, sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, personal and professional integrity, and the ability to travel as needed. UNC Management Company prefers candidates with one to two years of investment experience, and candidates with educational backgrounds in business, finance, economics, or mathematics, although applicants of all backgrounds may apply.
