Relationship Analysts (RAs) within the US Financial Intermediaries Group will work closely with Relationship Managers, Business Developers and Portfolio Advisors.  A successful RA will partner with managers across the team and will have the skills necessary to assist with all aspects of a relationship while focusing on the more strategic and investment elements of those relationships. A successful RA will understand the client's long term investment objectives, distribution strategies and policy issues and bring the resources of the organization to bear on behalf of the client with the goal of delivering a high level of service that will exceed the client's expectations and position Wellington Management as the partner of choice.

RAs will have interaction with clients and prospects - though they are likely to see their responsibilities focus on one of these relationship types.  RAs will conduct analysis and respond to inquiries on a wide variety of topics, including market and investment focused inquiries as well as distribution and growth oriented questions.  The RA is expected to develop in-depth knowledge of assigned books of business from an investment and distribution perspective.  The RA will have frequent interaction with the client and be expected to conduct portfolio reporting and analysis in response to inquiries on a wide variety of topics, often under significant time pressure.  The RA will be required to understand the client's expectations, incorporate investment and product knowledge, and work cross functionally across departments of the firm such as the Client Service Group, Portfolio Management, Product Management, Legal, and Compliance, in order to meet client needs and requests. 

Importantly, RAs will serve as thought partners to managers on the team and must be prepared to act as their back-up and proxy, representing the firm in a manner commensurate with those expectations.

A deep understanding of each relationship's long term investment objectives, distribution strategies, policies, etc.; bringing the resources of Wellington to bear on behalf of the client or prospect to exceed investment and service expectations as well as promote growth by helping our clients distribution efforts A broad and deep understanding of investment knowledge, including global capital markets, investment styles and instruments, allowing RAs to respond to a wide variety of inquiries and requests A deep understanding of the business aspects surrounding the intermediary sold mutual fund and hedge fund businesses The analytical capabilities to both retrieve data and understand the implications of that data from a relationship and firm perspective Strong commercial instincts - the ability to think strategically and define a plan for retaining and growing client and prospect relationships Strong problem solving ability including creative thinking combined with a collaborative approach in seeking the broader audience The ability to work independently and proactively; ability to multi-task in a fast paced and team oriented environment under tight deadlines with high volume of competing demands; demonstrate grace under pressure Strength of presentation skills and capability to effectively communicate both verbally and written with clients and prospects The ability to oversee a project from start to finish, in a highly organized and responsive fashion


Commanding a thorough knowledge of our business, coupled with the interpersonal skills to deal effectively with external relationships, the RA will work closely with all members of the team, as well as many other functional areas of the firm, particularly the Client Services Group.  They will conduct analysis of client portfolios, respond to inquiries on a wide variety of topics, and perform other tasks as appropriate. 

Principal responsibilities will include:
  • Develop a strong understanding of the depth and breadth of Wellington Management's product offerings
  • Analyze and maintain the latest industry and market information, including understanding of fund positioning within competitive landscape, and provide timely analysis of that data
  • With the RM/BD/PAs, set strategy for retaining and growing our business with clients and prospects
  • Support RM/BD/PA efforts in new business opportunities/cross sells with existing clients
  • With the RM/PA, set and execute marketing and sales support strategy for clients.  Proactive engagement with client's marketing, distribution, sales teams in an effort to increase brand awareness and assist in the support and growth of existing funds to the retail audience (including white papers, conference/sales meeting attendance, field support, outreach to key wholesalers, training, etc…) 
  • Prepare briefing materials, coordinate and lead prep meetings,  submit and coordinate requests for materials, review of presentation materials
  • Prepare for, participate in and/or host/lead client conference calls and meetings, focusing on content, key takeaways, and outcomes; handle meeting follow up
  • Assist with extensive preparation for Board meetings and sometimes participate directly
  • Respond to client inquiries, coordinating with other functional areas as needed
  • Ability to interact with senior level individuals on a broad range of topics (product, legal, compliance, and operational), including ability to assist and trouble shoot as needed
  • Assist with prospectus/SAI review process
  • Review sub-advisory reporting (MDFP, questionnaires, 15-c's) for thoroughness and completion with an eye towards client knowledge and risk management to ensure accurate, timely reporting to the client
  • Understand and ensure compliance with client guidelines and applicable regulations, including relevant '40 Act regulations
  • Coordinate internal processes (e.g., RFP/RFI)
  • Attend industry conferences (as agreed with RM/BD/PA)


The successful candidate is likely to have:
  • Strong academic credentials, coupled with progress towards (or willingness to pursue) a relevant professional qualification, e.g., CFA or MBA
  • 5+ years of relevant client facing experience, gained within the Financial Services industry.  Ideally, this will include direct buy side experience supporting institutional and/or wholesale relationships
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of capital markets and/or investment products. 
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the intermediary sold mutual fund business channel
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both oral and written.
