KBW is seeking an Equity Research Associate to support sell-side investment coverage of the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance sector. The position reports directly to the Senior Analyst to produce financial estimates, company and industry research reports, and stock recommendations for institutional investors. 

The ideal candidate should have a strong grasp of basic accounting and finance principles, exceptional analytical skills, familiarity with financial modeling concepts, excellent written and verbal skills, and a keen desire to learn about the insurance industry.

Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines under pressure is also critical. Responsibilities include financial modeling and forecasting, company and industry specific research, and organizational support for the Senior Analyst. With experience, the position will require increasing senior management and client interaction. Some travel required.


  • Build and maintain Excel-based financial models
  • Monitor company and industry news
  • Build and maintain databases of relevant industry and company specific data
  • Respond to questions from institutional sales and clients regarding covered companies, the P&C insurance industry, and data requests
  • Develop and contribute to written research products
  • Evaluate basic valuation methodologies for stocks under coverage and the broader sector
  • Maintain marketing materials and presentations
  • Meet the special projects demands of the Senior Analyst
  • Continue to build industry knowledge


  • B.S. or B.A. in finance, accounting, economics, or business related field
  • Strong work ethic and flexibility to work long hours when needed
  • Prior work experience in finance, public accounting, consulting, or actuarial sciences preferred
  • MBA, CFA, FSA/ASA, or CPA beneficial but not required
  • Outstanding analytical skills and critical thinking
  • Solid understanding of financial modeling
  • Strong written communication skills (writing samples may be required)
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Detail oriented with an ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Motivated self-starter with a positive attitude
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Series 7, 63, 86 & 87 within 6-12 months
