The Virginia Retirement System’s investment department is seeking a highly motivated investment professional to assist with the management and oversight of VRS Portfolio Strategy initiatives. Please visit for additional information on the Virginia Retirement System.

Responsibilities The VRS investment team manages approximately $70 billion in assets. This professional will work closely with the Director of Portfolio Strategy in the design, implementation, and management of portfolio strategy initiatives at the VRS. This includes leveraging the vast resources of the Plan to help identify investment opportunities that will either enhance returns and/or reduce risk for the Plan overall and for the strategy portfolios. The position will include research and analysis, external manager oversight and due diligence, project management, and reporting.

Qualifications A minimum of five years of experience is suggested, preferably in the investments field. The successful candidate should possess excellent computer skills and a solid understanding of qualitative and quantitative techniques for analyzing diverse sets of data and other information. The candidate must have strong problem solving capabilities, the ability to effectively communicate results and ideas to other team members, and a desire to work in a collegial small team environment. A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in an economic, financial, or quantitative discipline. A Master’s level education and/or a CFA designation is highly desirable.
