The AVP Product Development will be a key part of a Product Development team that is tasked with driving product innovation and development across OppenheimerFunds, Inc.’s fundamental active portfolio management business. This is a small, high-visibility team, with regular exposure to senior management and the opportunity to interact with business leaders and teams across the firm.

The AVP Product Development will support the process of defining, prioritizing and executing the new investment product innovation agenda for OppenheimerFunds, and reviewing product line expansions and growth / diversification plans. The AVP is required to bring strong industry knowledge and investment acumen to the position, and is expected to continuously deepen and broaden their knowledge of financial markets, asset classes and structures over time.

Primary duties and responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of strategic and analytical frameworks for investment product development
  • Monitor, anticipate and assess market, client, competitor and regulatory trends to drive product strategy and identify opportunities for new product innovation
  • Help define and build the business case for new product development initiatives through assembling fact-based arguments and developing compelling presentations to senior management
    • Conduct primary, secondary research and competitive analyses (e.g., product performance, market positioning, etc.)
    • Perform data analyses to drive insights and inform recommendations
    • Synthesize research / analyses, and develop concise and effective presentations in PowerPoint or Word
  • Help prioritize and drive execution and project management on new product launches
    • Own end-to-end responsibility for a significant component of one or more projects and initiatives
    • Collaborate with the Investment and Product Management teams to help design and build new products
    • Collaborate with other internal functional partners including the Distribution, Legal, Compliance, Finance and Marketing teams


  • 5-7 years of related experience, ideally with 3-5 years of experience in a strategy or product development function of a leading asset manager
  • Strong investment acumen and solid understanding of economics and capital markets
  • Knowledge of mutual funds, ETFs, ETNs, SMAs, UCITS, and other investment products
  • Excellent analytic, problem-solving and quantitative skills, with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, ability to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills in interacting with various constituencies within the firm
  • MBA/CFA preferred
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Self-starter with urgency and personal responsibility and accountability
  • Results-orientation with an ability to execute and complete deliverables in a timely manner
  • Strong leadership potential
