Northern Trust's Productivity Office is driving a key strategic initiative for the enterprise through establishing and evolving governance, providing ongoing oversight and measuring resource usage and spend in order to optimize productivity across the firm.

As a member of the Productivity Office, the Financial Analyst will provide assistance in helping Northern Trust's business units in the analysis and governance of investment initiatives, and the analysis of technology capital expenditures putting themselves in a position to help influence the financial performance of the organization.

The analyst will also have the opportunity to assist in the development and implementation of industry leading financial metrics and processes to improve productivity across the organization and the creation of accurate and timely information for executive decision making.

This is a unique opportunity for a financial and technology savvy professional to join a dynamic team in an established global financial institution, implementing industry leading governance processes and financial metrics across the organization.

The key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Partner with a senior member of the Productivity Office to assist with the investment governance and analytics pillar of the Productivity Office.
  • Assist in the development of reporting tools and financial models to analyze the financial performance of key Productivity Office pillars.
  • Analyzes financial impact of specific financial strategies from a corporate and business unit or project perspective, for Technology portfolios within their remit.
  • Administers corporate capital expenditure policy regarding as it relates to technology projects. Analyzes individual capital expenditures, corporate spending in total and in comparison, to plan working with business stakeholders to ensure they are able to make sound strategic investment decisions.
  • Interpret and communicate findings and analytics to senior and executive management across the organization.
  • Ad-hoc or stretch assignments, as needed.
The successful candidate will benefit from having:
  • Bachelors degree in finance or accounting.
  • 2+ years of experience in a financial analysis role such as financial planning and analysis or corporate development.
  • Proven work experience utilizing Advanced Excel, VBA, PowerPoint, PowerBi and Tableau
Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent finance and/or accounting skills.
  • Proactive self-starter that is able to manage competing priorities as they arise
  • Experience with data management and analysis .
  • Ability to interpret data and communicate data analysis in business terms
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of SDLC and project management principles required.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP financial policies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to communicate with partners across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong relationship building and management skills required to work with partners in finance and across business units.
  • Advanced Excel, VBA, PowerPoint, PowerBi and Tableau skills required.
  • Working knowledge of Capital IQ, Factset preferred.
