The role of William Blair’s product management team is to orchestrate strategy, positioning, planning and competitive analysis of William Blair’s investment products at all stages of the lifecycle and to plan for the development of new product to be introduced to the marketplace.

Essential Functions:

  • The Product Manager is the ‘product champion’ of their designated asset class or distribution platform and internal point of contact for all related product management activity within William Blair
  • The goal of the role is to drive business activity and flows to William Blair products via proactive management of existing products and the development of innovative new product
  • Act as internal product expert and main point of contact for product information
  • Define a vision and business plan for significant growth of William Blair’s products that includes both the strategy and tactics to achieve that growth with an understanding of the competitive landscape
  • Collaborate with Investment Product Specialist Teams in analyzing product and market data
  • Collaborate with Distribution and Product Leaders in the development of strategic plans for expansion in North America
  • Research, create and present a dynamic set of reports on asset management market trends and competitors to understand current William Blair product position and evaluate opportunities for sales, campaigns and product development
  • Conduct in-depth and targeted competitive analysis for product positioning in finals presentations and marketing materials
  • Execute baseline industry reviews of metrics including AUM, flows, fees, performance, etc.
  • Provide key input into product management and development initiatives, marketing content and business intelligence
  • Educate internal clients on the competitive advantages of William Blair’s products
  • Work closely with Sales and Product Specialists, to provide product support on investment strategies, including training, competitive analysis and positioning, marketing material content and sales support
  • Create appropriate and profitable product wrappers for William Blair’s distribution channels
  • Provide leadership to ensure effective product coordination and execution of product initiatives across multiples sales channels


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience preferably in product, business intelligence, business development or sales specialist role
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of Global and US Equity products
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of asset management marketplace
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of appropriate investment vehicles within the institutional and intermediary marketplace
  • Skilled knowledge of key databases including Morningstar, eVestment, Simfund, etc.
  • Tableau (or Power BI) proficiency a plus
  • Enthusiasm for the financial markets and investment management with a strong knowledge of equities and the institutional marketplace
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills including demonstrated experience with research, data gathering and ability to think strategically
  • Entrepreneurial drive to build business coupled with the ability to be a cooperative team player
  • High level of organizational skills and ability to multi-task and manage projects with competing priorities in a high paced environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with proven ability to lead and work in diverse, multi-functional teams.
