Rating Analyst - Local Government (LG) Central

The Role: As a Rating Analyst, you will participate in the evaluation of the credit quality of local governments as it relates to their ability to repay debt obligations. You will be responsible for aggregating data and information to present to rating committees. You will interact with clients, make presentations, and prepare reports for internal and external distribution.

The Team: The USPF LG Central team maintains a strong culture of analytical excellence and customer service in a supportive and collegial environment. Rating analysts are a key part of the success of the department and make meaningful contributions every day.

Your Skills: A supportive team is critical to growing the skills of any junior staff member, but a key feature of the position is the ability to also work with little supervision. In addition, you should have the ability to think critically and clearly express and defend your opinions verbally and in writing. Quantitative analysis is also part of the everyday work mix, so you should also have demonstrated skills in that area.

The Impact: US Public Finance is an important sector of the capital markets and is a key funding source and growth driver for many areas of the US economy. If you are interested in helping to facilitate this growth while challenging yourself in a fast-paced environment, this is the right position for you. This position will give the successful candidate the opportunity to contribute to a strong talent development culture that values high-impact analysis, service excellence, diversity, and empowerment.

What's in it for you:
  • Build a career with a global company. This position is a junior position, but with expectations for upward mobility. Advancement will be available to those who show a strong aptitude and embrace the municipal sector. While overall career development will depend on individual performance and company need, this is an opportunity for your skills and hard work to move you forward.
  • You will work on a portfolio of credits that will allow you to learn new skill sets
  • The USPF LG Central team will provide you with the opportunity to build on your sector knowledge and interact with local governments across a variety of states. As your career progresses you will have the chance to speak with the media and at conferences or write opinion pieces on the sector.
  • Occasional travel to issuer locations.
Our Hiring Manager says: "I'm looking for the kind of person who wants a challenging position with high expectations, who can assimilate into a professional team environment, and make immediate, positive contributions. We are a fast-paced, high-volume business, and there is always something new happening. This is a junior position, but not entry-level. The ideal candidate will have two years of work experience in financial services, government, or another relevant analysis-focused field."

• BS/BA or similar degree with studies in finance, government/public policy, accounting, economics, or similar fields
• A demonstrated interest in local governments and how they work
• Two years of relevant work experience
• Strong work ethic and ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
• Strong ability to work with financial models and data, including cash flow and credit models
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact confidently with clients
• Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to learn in both formal and on-the-job settings
• Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment with excellent time management skills
• Ability to be highly organized, detail-oriented, and juggle multiple priorities at once
