Role Responsibilities
The role holder, working closely with in house economists and analysts, produces high quality Macro Strategy research for the Bank's internal and external customers. The role will involve producing and communicating the teams' views on Macro Strategy and FX to clients globally.
Strategy
  • The individual will be responsible for delivering a range of client-led research approaches for content, content delivery and client engagement across product and geographies.
Business
The role will entail the following:
  • Working with the EM Macro Strategy, FX and interest rate research teams to develop multi-asset investment and trading ideas in both emerging markets and G10.
  • There will be a heavy focus on FX-related themes, but the research and publications should always look to incorporate a multi-asset approach.
  • The role will also require the occasional research update on currencies/markets in our foot-print which we receive less frequent research coverage.
  • The role will be focused on writing a regular product piece (a Macro weekly for example) as well as on writing thematic pieces.
  • With regard to these thematic pieces, there should be a relatively even split between more tactical pieces (shorter-term investment horizon of say 2-3 months) vs "Deep Dive" research notes which focus on larger themes which may be relevant for 6 months or longer
  • The role will require extensive client engagement as well as engagement with internal stakeholders
  • This will require travel and marketing

  • Ensure adherence to all internal and external regulations
  • Ensure implementation of procedures and controls as a result of changes in products, systems, policy or regulations

  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
  • Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people, and ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.
  • Employ, engage and retain high quality people, with succession planning for critical roles.
  • Responsibility to review team structure/capacity plans.
  • Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives.
Risk Management
The candidate will be responsible for:
  • Developing an awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the Group and the role the individual plays in managing them
  • Ensuring a full understanding of the risk and control environment within Global Research
Governance
  • The candidate will be responsible for developing awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct .
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
  • Help the EM FX team to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank's Conduct Principles: Fair Outcomes for Clients; Effective Financial Markets; Financial Crime Compliance; The Right Environment.
  • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
  • PRA/FCA prescribed responsibilities.
