The Analytics and Modeling business is a diverse and global team with a keen interest and expertise in all areas related to technology and financial analytics. The group is responsible for the research and development of quantitative financial models and tools across many different areas - single-security pricing, prepayment models, risk, return attribution, liquidity, optimization and portfolio construction, scenario analysis and simulations, - and covering all asset classes. The group is also responsible for the technology platform that delivers those models to our internal partners and external clients, and their integration with Aladdin. We conduct leading research on the areas above, delivering state-of-the-art models.

Building Financial Model and Analytics require significant amount of data to perform research, build and fit models, and perform model surveillance and performance monitoring.

We are rebuilding our Analytics platform across all dimensions: Data, Analytics and APIs, and we are looking for an experienced data engineer who will build the foundation of the Portfolio Analytics data platform which will help to transform the way we conduct research and deliver models and analytics to our clients. The role will evolve over time and expand to managing a team of data engineers.

You are passionate about quant models, you live and breathe data, you are not afraid of starting from ground zero and build things from scratch, you are constantly assessing the status quo, identifying opportunities for improvement, optimization, and providing constructive solutions to simplify and accelerate current programs and processes.

Responsibilities:
  • Create a data model suitable for managing various portfolio analytics data: risk exposures, returns, etc.
  • Work with infrastructure teams on cost efficient storage solutions to host this data and migrate these from legacy databases.
  • Focus on commercial component, promote data-as-a-service for analytics data; ensure analytics are articulated through data catalog, and highly available through data cloud, API, and other modern client interfaces
  • Centralize our utilization of Cloud technologies as we modernize the platform
  • Partner with research, data operations and platform engineer teams to define and enforce analytics model deployment practices and operation acceptance criteria in accordance with BlackRock's Model Risk Standards
  • Drive Analytics and Modeling talent management strategies to develop data subject matter experts


Knowledge/Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience in financial services with deep knowledge of data management for systematic and quantitative finance.
  • Track-record of managing data platforms and platform transformations and delivering under time constraints
  • Track-record being a data architect covering broad range of asset classes and vendor products
  • Solid knowledge of competitors products, product vision and vendor relationships
  • Must be familiar with Cloud data warehouse solutions, knowledge of relevant data products: MS SqlServer, Azure SQL, Snowflake.
  • Familiarity with financial model development lifecycle and experience in managing large-scale times series databases and deployments
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with ability to convey complex concepts simply and clearly to stakeholders and clients
  • Strong working knowledge of asset and risk management across a reasonable subset of fixed income, equities, derivatives, and alternatives
  • Knowledge SQL, Python, Informatica is a plus
  • Familiarity with Northfield, Axioma, Bloomberg API, TRKD, MarketQA, QADirect, Datascope, Watson


For California only the salary range for this position is $218,500 - $260,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.

Our hybrid work model
