Attorney with Distressed Debt Expertise Wanted…

Porter & Co., a boutique financial research firm, is looking for an attorney with extensive experience in distressed debt resolution, who can communicate to investors how a company’s bankruptcy affects their risk-reward tradeoff.

For the right candidate, we offer a flexible environment with the opportunity to work remotely, and/or on a contract basis. We also offer an extremely competitive salary and a full range of benefits – including the ability to work among a collegial team of financial savants, analysts, writers, and troublemakers, including “the dean of the high yield market,” Marty Fridson.

Once hired, our distressed debt attorney will tackle what is likely to be the most lucrative restructuring environment in history. Almost $5 trillion in corporate debt will need to be refinanced through 2026, and upwards of $1 trillion of that will end up distressed. Within that universe will be enormous opportunity to uncover securities offering the potential for outsized returns.

As our legal expert on workouts, you’ll have the opportunity to launch a subscription-based product(s), and to be part of a team that will advise our readers how best to allocate capital – a readership that includes some of the world’s leading hedge funds, high-net-worth investors, and major family offices.

You’ll help make our subscribers and clients richer and smarter. And to do that, you’ll help to produce captivating analysis that discerning investors will find fun to read.

Responsibilities

As our Distressed Debt Attorney, you’ll:

  • Contribute to analyses of select (non-144A) distressed debt investment opportunities that the team will discover through rigorous analysis.

  • Follow ongoing legal developments on a paper/publication portfolio of securities.

  • Write about new legislation or case law that affects creditors of distressed companies in general.

  • Work closely with the marketing and copywriting teams, as well as with other analysts.

  • Participate in other efforts of a small, dynamic team to drive the business forward.

Qualifications

We are open to attorneys who have worked on either the debtor or the creditor side.  The key requirement is direct experience in corporate workouts and bankruptcies that enables you to comment authoritatively on prospects for bondholders’ recoveries in the event of a default.

Beyond that, your most important credentials are qualities of mind: Curiosity, razor-sharp competitiveness, intellectual rigor, a flair for great storytelling, and a sense of humor. As we are a small group, it goes without saying that a positive, team-oriented frame of mind is essential.
