About Us 

As a first-of-its-kind Provincial Crown Corporation, Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC) was established to facilitate Indigenous investment in medium- to large-scale projects within Alberta. Specifically, AIOC is responsible for issuing Government-backed loan guarantees that support up to $1 billion of Indigenous investment in the natural resources, agriculture, telecommunications, and transportation sectors. 

Role 

A unique opportunity to be part of a newly established and growing buy-side investment organization, the Analyst will play a key role at AIOC. Located in Calgary, Alberta, the Analyst will be responsible for supporting the execution of AIOC’s investment program and operations. As a crucial member of a small team, the Analyst will play a dynamic role, covering a wide variety of functions that will evolve as the organization matures.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Investment Principal, provide direct support in evaluating Indigenous-backed investment proposals presented to AIOC
  • Participate in the due diligence process on qualified Indigenous-backed investments, including working with complex financial models
  • Work with 3rd party service providers, including lawyers, investment banks, commercial banks, and technical consulting firms to advance due diligence and deal structuring
  • Support in providing substantive, helpful feedback to investment proponents
  • Prepare analysis and presentations for AIOCs Executive and/or Board of Directors
  • Aide in the development and management of systems for monitoring and tracking existing investments. 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in the financial sector (corporate finance, research, private equity, etc.) and infrastructure-focused investing (project financing, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining outstanding attention to detail
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint) and the ability to build, manipulate and maintain complex financial models
  • Ability to think critically and solve complex problems without established precedence or procedures
  • A positive attitude and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, evolving work environment
  • An interest and experience in engaging Indigenous business and community leaders
  • Strong written and verbal communication 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or business
  • Completion of or working towards a CFA designation is considered an asset
  • 0-3 years of relevant work experience
