AMG Funds is seeking a candidate with approximately 3 to 5 years’ experience who possesses strong investment management knowledge and product research skills for the Product Analysis & Operations (PAO) team based out of Stamford, Connecticut. This position will be primarily responsible for providing product and industry analysis and research for an evolving set of investment vehicles, including mutual funds, SMAs, ETFs, and alternative investments. As a part of the function, the successful candidate will be expected to utilize quantitative skills on large datasets, and effectively communicate the results of their analysis to different audiences. This position supports and is a central resource for various teams across AMG Funds and AMG (NYSE: AMG), including Senior Management, Product Development, Investment Research, and Distribution.

 Principal Responsibilities

  • Provide product and industry analysis and research, including the review of assets, flows, performance, fees, and key industry trends
  • Utilize financial and quantitative tools combined with product and industry analysis to help further our product driven strategy. This includes analyses to help identify product development and timely client sales and retention opportunities, and to strengthen our competitive product positioning in the marketplace
  • Monitor, summarize, and convey key observations and insights
  • Develop and maintain a solid understanding of an evolving set of product vehicles, including traditional mutual funds, SMAs, ETFs, and alternative investments (e.g., hedge funds, tender offer funds, interval funds, non-traded BDCs, non-traded REITs)
  • Provide analysis and support for ad-hoc requests, which are primarily product or industry related
  • Provide guidance and direction to PAO’s Investment Data Management team for ongoing and ad hoc investment-oriented reports, charts, graphs, and data extracts
  • Develop a working knowledge of the diverse array of investment products and managers that are managed, distributed, or serviced by AMG Funds and AMG  

 Skills and Attributes

  • Demonstrates understanding of the investment management business and associated product vehicles, particularly mutual funds, SMAs, and alternative investment vehicles
  • Strong technical skills, particularly Excel. Knowledge of R or Python and SQL is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize, plan, and take initiative
  • Strong work ethic and displays ownership mindset

 Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Finance, Economics or a related field
  • Around 3-5 years of investment management experience providing product and industry analysis and research, particularly for mutual funds and SMAs; alternative investment vehicles are a plus
  • Progress towards CFA and/or CAIA preferred, but not required
  • Strong Excel skills are required;  experience with R, Python and SQL is a plus
  • Knowledge of investment-related applications (e.g., Morningstar Direct, FactSet, eVestment, ISS (Simfund), Bloomberg) preferred
