Elevate your career by joining the world's largest asset manager! Thrive in an environment that fosters positive relationships and recognizes outstanding performance! We know you want to feel valued every single day and be recognized for your contribution. At BlackRock, we strive to empower our employees and effectively engage your involvement in our success. With nearly USD $8 trillion in AUM, we have an outstanding responsibility: our technology and services empower millions of investors to save for retirement, pay for college, buy a home, and improve their financial well-being. BlackRock is one of the largest, most sophisticated global investment management firms and a leading provider of financial technology solutions to clients worldwide, including its class-leading Aladdin® investment management platform for institutional investors and Aladdin® Wealth and Advisor Center analytics platforms for financial advisors. Our Digital Enterprise Legal team provides legal support to BlackRock's revenue-generating technology business lines and financial advisor and institutional client engagement and education platforms; supports BlackRock's data, technology, and markets infrastructure; and enables innovation by managing the company's intellectual property (IP) strategy and assets.

Your role and impact

The IP Legal team within BlackRock's Digital Enterprise Legal team is seeking an experienced, business-minded intellectual property paralegal to join our team. You will work with internal clients globally across multiple business lines and functions, as well as external counsel, in a fast-paced, cutting-edge environment to strategically protect BlackRock's growing intellectual property assets globally. You will help advance BlackRock's business objectives by supporting brand clearance, protection, and enforcement activities, as well as supporting our innovation pipeline and providing other IP support. You are a self-starter, organized, resourceful, and detail oriented. You will be based in Atlanta, GA as a valued member of our growing Digital Enterprise Legal team in one of BlackRock's unique innovation hubs and a member of our broader, global paralegal team with colleagues in the US, Hungary, and Serbia.

Your responsibilities
  • Assisting with our efforts to strengthen and protect BlackRock's valuable IP assets, including working with BlackRock's IP attorneys, business and marketing teams, and outside counsel to support the day-to-day management of trademark clearance, prosecution, maintenance, and docketing activities for our growing global trademark portfolio.
  • Gathering and organizing evidence and other documentation to support the management and protection of BlackRock's global IP portfolio.
  • Supporting our brand enforcement strategies and activities, including reviewing watch notices, conducting factual research into third-party activity that may infringe our rights, providing recommendations on whether to pursue, and coordinating with BlackRock's IP attorneys and outside counsel to action infringements.
  • Assisting with the management of BlackRock's domain portfolio, including helping to register new domain names and coordinating with key stakeholders on the maintenance of the domain name portfolio.
  • Supporting our innovation pipeline, including managing our patent docket and working with internal clients and external counsel to support innovation intake, patentability assessments, and patent filings.
  • Identifying opportunities to increase efficiencies in our IP Program processes, and devising plans to implement appropriate changes.

You have...
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience as an IP paralegal or specialist in a top-tier law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Experience supporting the management of global trademark portfolios, including trademark clearance, prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement, for a large global company.
  • Familiarity with WebTMS, MaxVal, and/or similar IP docketing systems.
  • Familiarity with USPTO systems.
  • Initiative, attention to detail, and a collaborative working style.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple competing, and often evolving, priorities and deadlines.
  • BA/BS degree.
  • Paralegal certificate is a plus, though not required.
  • Experience in the asset management industry or related financial industry is a plus, though not required.

To help you stay energized, engaged and inspired, we offer a wide range of benefits including a strong retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, comprehensive healthcare, support for working parents and Flexible Time Off (FTO) so you can relax, recharge and be there for the people you care about.

Our hybrid work model

BlackRock's current hybrid work model is designed to enable in-person connections and collaboration that is core to our culture, while supporting increased flexibility for all employees. In line with local health guidance and regulations, employees are required to work at least 3 days in the office each week, with the flexibility to work from home up to 2 days a week.
