Financial Solutions within our Asia Oceana Corporate Banking Department provides knowledge-based financing solutions and value added services tailored to meet the needs of key corporate clients of Mizuho Bank across the Asia-Pacific region. An opportunity currently exists to join Mizuho's growing regional team of ESG professionals, working within Financial Solutions, to meet the increasing requirements of our corporate clients on various ESG matters, including identification of ESG risks and opportunities, improvement of ESG disclosures, as well as enhancement of their ESG profile to investors for better market access.

Job Responsibilities
The role will focus primarily on advising our corporate clients on ESG ratings and impacts through the following activities:
  • Supporting the bank's engagement with executive management of corporate clients across Asia and Oceania to better understand their sustainability needs;
  • Communicate and explain the underlying framework and criteria of the various ESG rating methodologies that are available in the market;
  • Identify and compare possible ESG rating methodologies that could be used by our corporate clients;
  • Evaluate and simulate the possible ESG rating assessments of our corporate clients, including peer benchmarking of ESG ratings;
  • Advice our clients on how to optimize their ESG ratings;
  • Conduct simulation and sensitivity analysis to see the likely impact of various corporate actions on our clients' ESG ratings and overall assessments; and
  • Communicate with ESG rating agencies
In addition to the role's primary focus, the successful candidate will also be a key member of the Bank's regional Sustainable Finance Team, and support the development of our ESG product and service offering to serve our clients' needs. Given this, we expect the successful candidate to have the following additional responsibilities:
  • Provide value add service to our corporate clients in the various aspects of their ESG journey, including but not limited to sustainable financing framework design and drafting, providing advice in terms of KPI and SPT selection, market and peer benchmarking, as well as recommendation on Second Party Opinion providers;
  • Engage with various stakeholders, such as relationship bankers and other product bankers, to help structure sustainable banking products;
  • Provide trainings and teach-in sessions to elevate our client relationship to a higher level;
  • Extend guidance to junior ESG staff members; and
  • Promote better practice and help drive Mizuho Bank's ESG strategy


Job Requirements
What you should have:
  • Strong analytical capabilities with excellent customer service skills
  • At least 8-10 years of work experience, with 3-5 years of this preferably in an ESG role or relevant experience in ESG or sustainable finance area at ESG SPO providers, boutique ESG consulting firms, international credit rating agencies, major accounting firms, or other financial institutions.
  • A Bachelor Degree in Business or related discipline or Environmental Science or related discipline, with understanding of how corporates are impacted by key sustainability trends
  • Qualification or certificate in Sustainable Finance or ESG Finance is desirable
  • Understanding of key international sustainability institutions, standards, data, and financing markets (e.g. green, social, sustainability-linked loans)
  • Ability to learn and produce succinct analytical work independently with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to convert analytical work into pragmatic ESG advice
  • Flexible to travel and meet clients face to face
