The Role Responsibilities
The purpose of this role is to

  • Support the General Counsel, CCIB Legal and Europe & Americas ("GC, CCIB and E&A") in the execution of the functional strategy and agenda across CCIB and Europe and Americas ("CCIB and E&A").
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the Legal operational excellence agenda across CCIB and E&A through management of budgets, communications, and the people agenda (including resourcing, capability, and capacity and P3).
  • Maintain rigorous cost and investment discipline across the function for CCIB and E&A.
  • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives designed to drive efficiency across the Legal team in CCIB and E&A in accordance with Group standards and guidance.
Strategy
  • Support the GC, CCIB and E&A in the execution of the functional strategy and agenda across the Region.
  • Proactively track and measure the performance of the function in delivering the strategic agenda, and identify gaps and actions required to deliver the agenda.
  • Contribute to the development of a strategy to improve the availability, use and analysis of data to support CCIB and E&A Legal as well as the Legal COO team.
  • Organise and support agenda setting for meetings of the CCIB and E&A Legal leadership team.
Business
  • Execute a disciplined budget process and accurate forecasting across Legal teams in CCIB and E&A according to agreed functional standards. including the development of capacity plans as required, to deliver on budget outcomes.
  • Coordinate and consider inputs from all Legal teams in CCIB and E&A in relation to investments and target setting decisions, working closely with the Legal COO and in line with the function's strategic priorities.
  • Support the GC, CCIB and E&A with tracking and managing completion of multiple concurrent projects for CCIB and E&A.
  • Produce high quality presentations for the GC, CCIB and E&A for use at management meetings and committees.
Processes
  • Adopt, cascade and maintain standard processes e.g., for management of headcount, costs, MI generation etc, including identification and migration of best practices from other areas of the Bank.
  • Lead the implementation of projects/process improvement initiatives, as directed by CCIB and E&A Legal and Legal COO team
  • Assist the GC, CCIB and E&A in providing reports and other MI in agreed and standardised format to the relevant functional, business and governance stakeholders.
  • Ensure appropriate communication and information sharing channels across the region and the other teams within LCS.
  • Support the GC, CCIB and E&A at relevant committees by reviewing papers and providing analysis of the content to ensure that key issues/ risks/ insights are highlighted to the GC, CCIB and E&A.
  • Support the GC, CCIB and E&A by informing him ahead of material issues and act as the point of contact for the GC, CCIB and E&A to help manage issues/ solve problems.
People & Talent
  • Ensuring CCIB and E&A Legal team is adequately resourced and staffed by an appropriate number of competent staff sufficiently independent to perform duties objectively, to support sustainable business growth and address legal risks in CCIB and E&A.
  • Supporting the GC, CCIB and E&A on people management in the areas of resourcing, talent development, performance management, learning and development and engagement, in accordance with frameworks and standards set by Group.
  • Support GC, CCIB and E&A and Legal COO in embedding any organisation structure changes from time to time.
Risk Management
  • Maintain an overall vigil and work with the Business to ensure operational controls are commensurate with the risk appetite of the Bank/ Business and are operating effectively.
Governance
  • Responsible for assessing the effectiveness of CCIB Legal overall controls and Operational Risk Framework.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Our Ideal Candidate
  • 5+ business management experience with a broad understanding of all banking businesses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to network and influence decisions within the business and within infrastructure/ support teams, senior stakeholder management skills and high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to deliver strong outputs for CCIB Legal management.
  • Good knowledge of the CCIB business, products, and processes with a broad understanding of how CCIB Legal contributes to the business delivery model.
  • Strong analytical and presentational skills and ability to prioritize, whilst working to tight timeframes. Strategic mindset with strong problem solving and good common sense/ logical thinking skills. An inquisitive "challenge the status quo" approach to existing practices and procedures.
  • Good business judgment with experience in operational control and risk assessment within a multifunctional and multicultural team environment.
  • Flexible and responsive nature to handle changing priorities. Able to multitask and must be willing to work on topics of little previous exposure. Ability to work independently with minimal direction and take the initiative.
