Overview

Control Officer serving in the First Line of Defense (1LOD) within the Asset Servicing and Digital (ASD) business. ASD is composed of many components, including Custody, Digital Assets, Funds Services, Front-to-Back Middle Office Solutions and Data and Analytics. This role will be the Head of Controls for the Digital Asset Custody business.

Reports direct to the Global ASD Chief Controls Officer.

Responsibilities
  • First Line of Defense risk and control functions for BNYM's entry into Digital Asset custody business
  • Identify strategic risks and opportunities in the digital asset ecosystem based on industry insights, latest academic research, and exchange with colleagues
  • Provide risk and regulatory advisory support in defining and reviewing business models
  • Design and deploy business and finance process changes and risk-mitigating controls to enable digital-asset-specific capabilities
  • Establish and maintain a strong technology and crypto risk governance program that facilitates business growth while protecting BNYM and its customers
  • Skillfully handle deep risk assessments and due diligence inquiries from clients, sales prospects, regulators, and internal/external auditors
  • Perform or assist in performing relevant risk assessments and issue mitigation/tracking for all aspects of BNYM Digital Asset Custody Business
  • Help growing business build control programs that appropriately mitigate risk and meet corporate standards
  • Partner with business leaders and other stakeholder (Enterprise Risk, etc.) to promote a collaborative environment that helps the business meet its goals while ensuring it stays within its risk tolerance
  • Leverage your experience in the financial services, digital asset, or the risk/compliance industry with an emphasis on building control programs

Experience
  • 10+ years of related experience in Technology, Cybersecurity, Risk, an/or Audit
  • Interest and/or understanding of blockchain or crypto assets is a plus
  • Demonstrated abilities in multiple areas (e.g., blockchain, cryptographic security, technology infrastructure and application controls, cyber security, access management, network and cloud, resiliency, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Industry standards, frameworks and standard methodologies, such as NIST SP800-53, COBIT, SOC1, ISO27001
  • Experience managing risks, controls, and issue management.

BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $136,500 and $350,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
