The Investment Operations Financial Accounting Analyst performs investment related financial and accounting work. The incumbent will compile, review, reconcile, and analyze financial and accounting data; prepare reports and respond to inquiries, recommend action to resolve discrepancies, record journal entries, and review, assess, develop, and document business processes. This position will proactively work with the Budget & Accounting team, Investment Operations team, IMD staff, and agency employees.
Compensation: The TRS Investment Management Division offers an attractive compensation package consisting of base salary, annual performance incentive bonus, a defined-benefit pension plan as well as 401(k) and 457 retirement plans, and comprehensive benefits. Starting salary is commensurate with experience.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Financial Accounting and Analysis
- Performs routine journal entries.
- Compiles, reviews, and analyzes financial data related to investments, commission credit revenue and expense, and IMD business operations. Makes recommendations to management to resolve issues identified through the analysis of financial data.
- Reconciles commission credit expenditures paid by State Street with TRS accounting system (CAPPS).
- Reviews, assesses, develops, documents, updates and maintains operational documentation, policies, and procedures.
- Reviews billed Management and Performance fees and initiates payments.
Reporting
- Prepares and analyzes investment reporting for Management.
- Prepares reports on Research and Legal fees.
- Provides investment holdings reporting for Public Information Act requests. Prepares quarterly Public holdings reports.
- Compiles budget to actual reporting for the Investment Management Division.
- Assists in developing annual budget plan.
- Prepares and reviews expenditure reporting.
- Assists in Management and Performance fee reporting.
- Performs related work as assigned
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Minimum Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of full-time professional experience in financial analysis and review, travel administration, or related field.
Registration, Certification, or Licensure:
·None.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One (1) year of full-time professional investments experience or other experience involving a high degree of skill in data analysis and evaluation, such as accounting, financial analysis, or statistics.
- Experience with financial software, database and report writing technology (Concur, PeopleSoft).
- Basic understanding of capital markets, investment securities (equities, bonds, and derivatives), and/or private markets (real estate or private equity).
- Basic understanding of investment performance measurement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Investment concepts and terminology.
Skill in:
- Performing financial analysis
- Verifying and auditing financial data
- Using a computer in a Windows environment with MS Office word processing, spreadsheet (including advanced Excel functions and macros), and database systems
- Conducting data searches and evaluations of large amounts of information, preparing concise and accurate reports
- Communicating complex technical information, verbally and in writing, including presenting analysis
- Organizing and coordinating work assignments to effectively meet frequent and/or multiple deadlines, in handling multiple tasks simultaneously, and in managing conflicting priorities and demands
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and external contacts
