As a Portfolio Manager within WestStar’s Wealth Management Division, you will have the opportunity to be an integral member of a broad fiduciary team of highly experienced trust and investment professionals. The Portfolio Manager position is a client-facing role, supporting Relationship Managers, with hands-on portfolio management responsibilities. A key contributor to the investment team, you will be a liaison with research firms, analysts, and consultants with a global reach spanning all asset categories to help design and implement WestStar’s strategic and tactical asset allocation strategies and conduct manager search, selection and due diligence. Key focus is effective client communication, satisfaction, retention and book expansion.
Essential Functions
- Manage the investment strategies and portfolios of individuals, families, non-profit organizations and institutions with an understanding of the risk tolerance, investment objectives, and general tax characteristics of each.
- Apply WestStar’s investment philosophy in portfolio implementation and present related concepts and strategies to prospects, clients, internal partners and centers of influence.
- Remain informed and knowledgeable of the capital markets, global economy, investment strategies and securities employed in client portfolios and communicate developments to internal and external relationships in both oral and written form.
- Prepare customized presentations and reports and lead regular client meetings to effectively convey WestStar’s investment strategy and factors relating to client account performance,
- Analyze existing holdings of clients and prospects including individual stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds and investment managers.
- Conduct financial planning relating to retirement, cash flow needs, estate planning, charitable bequests, etc.
- Timely processing and completion of operational requirements, securities trading, portfolio rebalancing, asset transfers and communications with clients, prospects and team members.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and that best practices are utilized.
- Coordinate onboarding of new relationships and accounts.
- Participate/Present to various oversight and governance committee meetings.
- Participate in business development efforts with existing and prospective clients.
- Business Development:
- Identify new business prospects and cross-selling opportunities.
- Partner with Client Advisor to advance prospecting efforts including the preparation and presentation of WestStar’s capabilities, analysis, philosophy and strategies.
- Partner with Wealth Management team members to deepen current relationships and expand client AUM base.
- Participate in Bank, Bank-sponsored, and community outreach activities.
Required Education, Experience, Skills
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably in finance or economics; MBA or work toward MBA preferred
- CIMA or CFA progress; current charterholder strongly preferred
- 5+ years of experience in a related field; portfolio management highly preferred
- Understanding of economic and financial markets
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work
- Strong presentation/public speaking and technology skills/experience
- Proactive and effective client-facing interaction
- No SEC licensing required, Trust exemption applies
