Vice President, ESG Research / PM Architect

Your Team

BlackRock’s Index Fixed Income (IFI) team is responsible for managing $1.8 Trillion in assets globally across many regions, client segments, and investment vehicles.

Within IFI, the PM Architecture team designs and develops algorithms to significantly increase automation in research and portfolio construction processes globally. The team is also partnering with BlackRock technology teams to develop the “Algo Platform” to deploy algorithms robustly at scale. Many algos are event-based and automatically propose order lists that rebalance funds back to target.

The Architecture team is building out its research technology capabilities in partnership with the IFI ESG team to meet client demand for ESG-centric solutions. The team is building a common research toolkit and optimization platform to evaluate ESG strategies for index products and create consistency in ESG reporting metrics.

Your role and impact

A successful candidate will be familiar with management of a wide range of Fixed Income funds and have strong technology skills, allowing them to develop robust prototypes which make immediate improvements to the PM and Research process. They will also have the communication skills to partner with both PM and Technology teams to guide the integration of these prototypes into the core BlackRock production technology.

Your responsibilities

• Build out centralized back-test and research toolkit using our B3 optimizer and custom screening logic for ESG new product development and product enhancements

• Build out research-to-construction capabilities to manage ESG mandates and support portfolio cash flow modeling, integrating financial and ESG outcome metrics

• Perform research on new products and client inquiries around the impact of ESG optimization

• Design efficient algorithms and optimizers to automate key research and construction processes

• Develop both prototypes and production tools running from our centralized repository

• Partner with PM / Researchers to integrate these tools into daily processes and continually refine them

• Partner with Financial Modeling Group (FMG) and BlackRock Technology teams to develop the core “Algo Platform” and ensure existing applications and libraries continue to evolve to support IFI needs

You have

• Strong quantitative background (at least BA/BS in Math/Science/Engineering/related discipline)

• Strong programming skills in Python or at least two of the following: VB, R, MATLAB, Java, C++

• Experience with optimization in a portfolio construction capacity

• Experience of working as Portfolio Manager or Researcher, either directly or alongside

• Working knowledge of Fixed Income markets

• Familiarity across a range of funds and investment styles (index/active, fundamental/quantitative)

• Excellent problem-solving skills and process-oriented approach

• Excellent teamwork and communication skills

• Knowledge of BlackRock Aladdin tools beneficial
