About BlackRock Alternative Investors

Charged with establishing BlackRock as clients' preeminent partner in alternative investing globally, BlackRock Alternative Investors (BAI) is one of the top five largest alternative asset managers in the world today. We are active in all asset classes and connect them in ways other firms can't match, operating on an integrated platform consisting of real estate, infrastructure, credit, private equity and hedge funds. Our scale means we offer expertise and access unique to BlackRock, and you'll collaborate with teams across our firm in unexpected ways. As part of a key growth engine for the firm, you'll be invited to continue building the platform that is shaping the future of Alts investing by creating and evolving innovative investment ideas and tech solutions on a team that continuously outperforms - setting new standards.

Grow your career with the firm that's building tomorrow's alternatives platform, backed by a purpose that drives positive outcomes for our clients, our investments and the communities we serve.

BlackRock Alternative Advisors ("BAA") is BlackRock's hedge fund solutions platform. With over $31 billion under management, BAA provides hedge fund solutions and hedge fund oriented co-investments to a broad array of institutional clients through commingled and custom fund structures.

BAA's hedge fund solutions product offerings encompass numerous investment strategies that span equity and credit markets, but also less traditional asset classes typically trafficked by specialized asset managers. BAA has significant experience in early manager identification, demonstrated access to unique investment opportunities and is a pioneer in hedge fund co-investments. BAA leverages the insights of the firm's substantial network of traders, legal and operational professionals globally to inform investment decisions.

BAA is looking for a Vice President to join the Absolute Return Strategies Manager Research Team to focus on hedge fund strategies in which the platform invests, with a focus on quantitative hedge fund strategies.

Responsibilities:
  • Source, Evaluate, and Monitor New Fund Investments and Co-investments - particularly with respect to systematic strategies
    • Utilize experience and proprietary network to identify investment opportunities with an emphasis on being early
    • Lead investment due diligence including onsite visits, analysis, and the preparation and presentation of investment recommendations
    • Coordinate diligence effort across various functional teams (risk, operations, legal, compliance)
    • Identify and communicate emerging risks or potential inflection points associated with investments
    • Develop an in-depth understanding of a range of hedge fund strategies and associated instruments
  • Communicate domain expertise to sophisticated clients
  • Mentor junior team members in the methods of investment analysis and foster their professional growth
  • Initiate and build relationships with investment teams and domain experts across BlackRock to facilitate knowledge transfer and aid decision-making

Skills and Qualifications:
  • 5-8 years' previous experience preferred, but not required
    • Prior experience may include, but not limited to: roles in quantitative analytics, at alt data vendors, execution vendors, asset managers with a focus on quantitative investments, or roles as a 'quantimental' analyst on the sell-side or buyside. Interest in learning more about quantitative hedge fund strategies, with prior experience in the industry more broadly without specifications in algorithmic strategies, is welcome.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics/statistics, or Engineering preferred but not required
  • Outstanding academic credentials
  • The ability to work with individuals at all levels of an organization and contribute to the strategic direction of the firm
  • Outstanding analytical and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Capacity to keep the strategic vision of a company in sight while paying attention to the details of day-to-day operations
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the right level of confidence and assertiveness, to present and promote ideas at all levels of the organization
  • Intellectual curiosity with an ability to be a self-starter
  • Experience incorporating ESG considerations to source, diligence, and monitor investments preferred

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $156,750 - $205,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
