Job Details
AIMCo has the responsibility of ensuring prosperity, security and opportunity across generations of
Albertans. Client Risk Management plays a key role in the continuing development of the risk
management function for AIMCo’s clients, helping them to understand and manage the risks to
achieving their investment objectives. Through developing a successful partnership with AIMCo’s
Client Relations and Investment Strategy teams and working with client boards and management
teams, CRM advises clients on their risk management process. To achieve the above, the team uses
various quantitative risk models, conducts risk analysis and research in support of AIMCo’s and
clients’ decision-making processes.
Highly successful Senior Analysts share many of the same characteristics. They are self-starting,
intellectually curious, highly diligent and results focused. They are relationship builders, able to
interact with diverse groups of stakeholders and are comfortable putting critical issues up for
discussion.
Highly consultative yet confident, you will advocate for clients internally within AIMCo and support risk
related decision making. You will also contribute to the broader Investment Risk Management team
by identifying and assessing the risks of AIMCo’s clients. Additionally, you will contribute to AIMCo’s
client portfolio advisory activities and asset-liability risk modelling.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting and advising clients on the risk implications of their strategic policies, including articulation of their risk appetite and tolerances, and development of risk management frameworks
- Support to client facing colleagues during client meetings
- Monitoring client portfolios against risk limits (daily), overseeing and reviewing the preparation client risk reports, risk commentary and quarterly client presentations
- Providing insightful risk analysis in response to client related inquiries
- Developing client risk education materials
- Development of tools to enhance the application of AIMCo risk systems to ongoing client risk reporting
- Assisting in the development of stress tests and scenarios relevant to AIMCo's clients
- Providing thought leadership, both internally and to AIMCo’s clients, for example in respect of climate change risk
Our Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Finance, Mathematics, Economics or other relevant discipline
- Professional designation would be and asset (such as FRM, PRM, MBA, CFA and/or actuarial designations)
- 3+ years relevant risk management experience
- Knowledge of pension plan management, regulatory environment, actuarial models and methods
- Working knowledge of risk management and asset-liability modeling applications
- Advanced written and verbal communication abilities
- Highly proficient with MS Applications
- Coding experience in MATLAB, Python, R or SQL programming languages would be an asset
- Embraces debate and recognizes strength in diverse voices and opinions

Success Measures:
Within the first three months, the incumbent will have developed a good working knowledge of AIMCo clients and CRM workflows and processes. They will demonstrate a commitment to AIMCo’s core values through interactions and work deliverables.
