We are seeking a Chief Risk Officer to join our dedicated and high-performing team. To succeed in this role, you will have strong analytical skills including investment valuation and risk management, investment acumen and experience, and be a highly motivated and innovative leader. 

As a Chief Risk Officer, you will lead the risk function within the investment team and collaborate with other members of the team on portfolio construction, rebalancing, monitoring investment managers, and risk management. You will lead the evaluation and measurement of risk for the investment portfolios as well as current and candidate investment managers.

Summary of Work

This integral role will:

  • Develop and oversee policies, systems, procedures and tools to identify, assess and monitor investment risk in the investment portfolios. This will include sourcing, evaluating, implementing and maintaining technologies and/or systems to facilitate risk management endeavors.
  • Directs and performs quantitative and qualitative analyses to evaluate the different risks in the investment portfolios and the potential impact of proposed portfolio changes. This undertaking may also include designing and developing new analytics and quantitative tools/models to measure and evaluate investment risk and/or enhance the investment process.
  • Develops and prepares investment risk reports and presents key findings to the Investment Team and/or the State Investment Board.
  • Lead research projects to enhance and/or optimize the investment portfolios. Topics of research may include asset classes, investment strategies, investment managers and benchmarks.
  • Direct and conduct research and analyses involved in the evaluation, selection, and monitoring of investment managers. Endeavors may include leading meetings and calls with existing and prospective investment managers (or consultants/advisors), performing in-depth portfolio/strategy analyses and organizational assessments.
  • Collaborate with senior Investment team members to manage portfolio construction, asset allocation, manger selection, rebalancing, and tactical/strategic allocations.
  • Direct and mentor team members. Assign, oversee and review team members’ work on key projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, science, engineering or related field and ten years of investment or risk management experience with a public pension plan, foundation/endowment, trust organization, financial consulting firm or other institutional investor.
  • A Master’s degree in one of the above fields may substitute for two years of the required work experience.
