Under the direction of the Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, the Investment department is responsible for the management of the Foundation’s $8.1 billion endowment.

The Senior Analyst, Real Assets and Sustainable Investments supports and works closely with the Managing Director, Real Assets and Sustainable Investments in all areas associated with managing the collective portfolios of real estate, natural resources and sustainable investments, which in aggregate have a target allocation of 10% of the Foundation’s endowment.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all aspects of portfolio management, including sourcing, evaluating, selecting and monitoring investment managers for the portfolio. Specific responsibilities include: proactively search for potential investment opportunities, meet with prospective investment managers, conduct market and investment research, perform investment and operational due diligence, and prepare documentation and presentation work associated with new and follow-on investments

  • Monitor the performance and activities of the Foundation’s real asset and sustainable portfolio; meet with existing investment managers and stay informed on activities of each fund and the organizational changes of each manager

  • Manage the financial reporting of the portfolio, including return reconciliation and performance attribution.

  • Primarily responsible for coordinating and managing administrative support as it relates to the Real Assets and Sustainable portfolios.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field; advanced degree or master’s degree in business, finance or related field preferred

  • Progress toward a professional credential (e.g. CFA charter holder) is a plus

  • At least five years of work experience, including at least three years of investment experience in evaluating investment opportunities from an institutional perspective, with strong understanding of capital markets and diverse investment strategies; working knowledge of real estate and/or private equity investments preferred.

  • Familiarity with private partnership structures, records management, and critical monitoring of investment activity and exposure

  • A self-starter who has demonstrated intellectual curiosity and deep interest in investing, with the ability to conduct independent research on various subjects

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills; detail oriented; ability to deliver high quality work products with minimal errors

  • A person of high ethical standards and integrity; work well in a team structure

  • Comfortable working in a fast- paced environment. Ability to meet tight deadlines is critical

  • Strong MS Office skills; proficient in Excel. Familiar with software systems such as Bloomberg, Private I

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

The position is based in Chicago, Illinois and the employee is expected to reside in the Chicago metropolitan area.
