Description

As a key member of the Portfolio Management Group within Portico’s Investment unit, the Senior Analyst is responsible for leading one or more asset classes and supporting Investment unit activities. Portico’s in-house investment team is responsible for overseeing over $9 billion in retirement, health, and other institutional assets. The team sets asset allocation policies for the various pools of assets, selects and monitors external asset managers across public and private markets, evaluates new asset classes and investment opportunities, and monitors and reports performance to various internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead one or more asset classes (in either public or private market space) 
    • Guide the asset class structure and manager hiring, monitoring, and termination activities
    • Monitor portfolio exposures and developments within asset classes
    • Act as subject matter expert, for both internal and external audiences, for industry developments in asset class and investment manager landscape
    • Provide support and backup on other asset classes (public and/or private markets) within Portico’s investment program
    • Develop and maintain legal agreements, investment guidelines, and fee schedules
  • Support Portfolio Management Group initiatives
    • Serve as a voting member and reviewer on all key decisions across public and private markets, including program structure and manager decisions
    • Lead or assist with portfolio management group initiatives such as ad hoc research, transition management activities, and analytic platforms
  • Lead and/or support other Investment unit and enterprise-wide responsibilities
    • Work with the Socially Responsible Investing Group on manager hiring, monitoring, and termination activities as needed
    • Prepare reports for the board of trustees
    • Collaborate on Investment unit project priorities
    • Assist with regular operational activities
    • Work with internal partners on enterprise-wide activities (e.g. Treasury/Finance)
    • Understand and comply with Portico’s governance, risk, and compliance standards, including internal controls, regulatory compliance, and policy compliance

Qualifications

  • CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation, or progress towards designation
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative investment analysis skills
  • Sound research, analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of portfolio management concepts
  • Ability to think independently and contribute effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills, including good presentation skills
  • Curious, with a commitment to continual learning
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals both inside and outside the organization
  • Proficiency working with personal computers and software systems
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet project and reporting deadlines

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in investments, finance, economics, or related field

Experience

  • 5+ years of investment management experience, with a preference for experience in investment manager selection and monitoring in public or private equity
