About this role

The Chief of Staff (COS) will partner with the Head of APAC to prioritize their engagements, prepare materials for key events, and drive the completion of critical projects for the region. Such projects may include cross-functional opportunities to accelerate organic growth, drive operating efficiencies and deliver against talent priorities. Additionally, the COS will coordinate the APAC Executive Committee agenda and oversee the completion of follow up commitments. In certain cases, the COS will act as a proxy for the Head of APAC in meetings with external and internal stakeholders.

The COS should have a long-term commitment to BlackRock, know how to navigate the global organization, operate in a highly-resourceful manner and demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills. Interpersonal skills will be critically important to build strong relationships with peers and develop connectivity with partners in Client Businesses, Investments, Technology & Operations and Corporate Teams (e.g., Finance, Strategy, Product, HR, Marketing, Legal, etc.).

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Preparing materials, talking points for meetings with clients, regulators and internal stakeholders.
  • Work with business partners to plan client engagements and travel for the Head of APAC
  • Ensure thorough preparation of presentation materials, talking points and speeches; and final review of all briefings
  • Execute on (or oversee the execution of) clear action items and commitments following meetings
  • Coordinating the APAC Executive Committee and other governance bodies responsible for managing the APAC business


  • Manage cross-functional projects and ensure alignment among parties (e.g., business and corporate)
  • Assist in the planning, development, implementation, and tracking of all projects
  • Monitor all C-level initiatives and ensure they are moving in a timely and effective fashion
  • Track the progress of accountable individuals as they accomplish their objectives according to deliverables with results that are of the highest quality
  • Proactively manage relationship development internally and externally and serve as an ambassador of relationships for the Corporate Executive office
  • Deepen connectivity with critical functions, across investments, clients and the operating platform


  • Deliver ad hoc assignments initiated by the Head of APAC, ranging from written memos to specific analyses
  • Scope, plan and execute multiple, often quick-turnaround projects with "no natural home"
  • Navigate the matrix organization to obtain necessary fact-checking and insights
  • Write presentation materials and talking points for various speaking engagements
  • When appropriate, oversee transfer of completed projects to the businesses for BAU execution


  • Proactively identify and escalate issues that could impact the success of the region
  • Partner with the Head of APAC to drive connectivity and consistency across the region, principally by acting as a central point of contact for each of the country and functional heads
  • Maintain focus and resource alignment toward the most promising and important regional opportunities
  • Promote understanding, transparency and trust across the region


  • Drive a strong culture throughout the region by bringing principles of inclusion and diversity to the team and setting the tone through specific recruiting, management actions and employee engagement (e.g. townhalls)


Knowledge /Experience:
  • Experience driving cross-functional projects and seeing them through to completion
  • A track record of engagement and leadership on strategic projects
  • A strong contributor with the ability to remain calm when delivering in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and competing demands
  • The ability to effectively manage projects and influence stakeholders; results oriented and able to "roll-up the sleeves" in order to accomplish necessary tasks
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and build credible trusted relationships with peers, partners and senior colleagues
  • A strong understanding of the firm's business, of client needs and the industry in which we operate, including the regulatory agenda
  • Someone who is intellectually curious with the ability to take initiative and deliver results in a matrixed organization
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Extremely high attention to detail
