The Chief Data Office (CDO) within M&G plc is mobilising a number of initiatives around data management to maximise the value of our data and to mitigate data risks. One of the key initiatives is to enable the adoption of an enterprise-wide data catalogue across business areas to better understand the data that drives our business - where it can be accessed; what it means; how to use it; where it's used; who's responsible for it; and the quality checks applied over it. The implementation of this catalogue will ensure the data used within the organisation is fit-for-purpose, strengthening our data governance capabilities, improve regulatory compliance and reduce the inaccuracy or misuse of data across the organisation.
The key focus of this role is to work with Data owners, data stewards and the business/technical teams and ensure population of the metadata within enterprise data governance and cataloguing tool - Informatica Axon.
The successful candidate will use their extensive asset and investment management expertise and detailed knowledge of the data that is used within the industry to formulate and validate clear business glossary definitions of data items aligned to the data model.
The role will be supported by data experts from both the CDO and Data Architecture teams, business SMEs from M&G business areas.
Purpose statement

The overall purpose and key responsibilities of the Catalogue steward are:
  • To work with data stewards and business/technical SMEs to assist in creating and documenting business glossary definitions for their respective data domains and projects
  • To maintain the integrity and structure of business glossary within the data catalogue
  • To maintain integrity and hierarchy/relationship between facets in Axon, re-point links and relationships between data sets, etc
  • To undertake the administration and control of the M&G data catalogue tool - Informatica Axon
  • To provide Quality assurance on the content that resides within the strategic data catalogue solution
  • To support Product Owner in deriving metrics relevant to adoption of Data catalogue by the wider organisation
  • To proactively promote and manage data catalogue awareness throughout the business

Experience statement
Key experience of the successful candidate will include:
  • Experience working in asset/ investment management as a catalogue steward or Senior Business analyst
  • Knowledge of full end-to-end asset and investment management lifecycle - from trade placement and portfolio management, through to market valuation, fund and client reporting
  • Hands-on experience creating high-quality business glossary definitions and capturing metadata of data
  • Understanding of data management principles and capabilities
  • Experience working with a range of senior stakeholders, managing relationships, and flexing approach to support data stewards and projects that are at different levels of data maturity and priorities
  • Effective time management, prioritisation and organisational skills that ensures deadlines are met
