The Team
The Data Science department's mission is to provide analytics and insights relating to the economic markets, clients, and products in which CME Group operates. The team is responsible for data science, machine learning, analytics, generating insights, performance reporting, and developing data products and tools. The team brings diverse skill sets together (statistics, derivatives expertise, ingenuity, coding and technical skills) in a highly collaborative, collegial manner. The team is one of the key thought leadership groups at the Exchange and serves business leadership to identify and promote significant market and client opportunities.

We try new things, fail fast, and ultimately deliver valuable insight through the combination of collaboration, new technology, and algorithms. Analyze patterns and correlations among derivatives products, clients, and other data to generate actionable insight. Brainstorm, design, and implement new analytical models.
One example of our work is:

Perform quantitative analysis on clients and products to identify and understand opportunities, risks, and trends. Perform analytics on large CME Group databases to better understand CME Group market ecosystems. Utilize technical skills to deliver systematic, automated, or statistically significant information with little initial human monitoring or intervention. Automate performance reporting, generate insights, visualize results, and present analytics to high level business leaders. Broadly utilize database systems and technical skills to perform analytics faster and more efficiently Assist with performance reporting to C-Suite, Investor Relations, and Corporate Communications Capable of investigating, familiarizing and mastering new data quickly and combining multiple data sets together (e.g. transaction, CRM, and website data) Coordinate and assist in data cataloging of CME Group datasets Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Product teams to brainstorm new ideas from inception to fruition. Make presentations to Sales, Marketing, and Product teams on analysis performed. Incorporate feedback and refine analytical agenda. Stay current with leading edge systems, methods, and best practices for data science, analytics, machine learning and data infrastructure.

Education & Experience
  • BS/BA or higher in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics or related fields
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Data Science or business analytics
  • Combination of technical/quantitative and business acumen is strongly preferred
  • Progress towards a Master's degree in Data Science or Business Analytics related field
  • Familiarity with Industry Leading Enterprise Data Catalogs a plus

Job Qualifications
  • Programming skills in SQL, Python (Numpy, SciPy, Pandas, and scikit-learn) or any one of the major object-oriented programming language (C++, Rust, Scala, C# etc.)
  • Proficient in Tableau or other visualization software with ability to create dashboards, automate data loads, and produce insightful analytics and visuals
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with other Business Intelligence tools such as Business Objects, Qlikview, Looker, and PowerBI would be a plus
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Futures, Options, and Cash Markets is recommended
