Position Description:

PIMCO's Technology Team is organized in small, focused, agile groups, that either work closely with business units to deliver value or develop core technologies that lever the product teams. Position overview
We are changing the way we handle data at PIMCO and creating a new data driven culture leveraging our platform. The Data Platform Engineer will be a key contributor to the large-scale system architecture, performing troubleshooting, and contributing to maintenance duties.
We are looking for a Data Platform Engineer to build a robust, scalable and operational data platform that will enable PIMCO to quickly and effectively scale to meet the needs of our customer base. Your focus is to ensure the data platform is operating at max efficiency and stability while supporting our end users to design and build optimal data pipelines. As a Data Platform Engineer, you will be challenged and be part of a team to find innovative solutions that will deliver the right method, standards, techniques and capabilities to support the growing number of data analytics use cases. The Data Platform Engineer will work directly with development and operations teams to solve operational issues and devise solutions to maximize pipeline capabilities. The role will need a candidate that spans knowledge across infrastructure, networking, databases, big data processing, and automation to be effective.

Responsibilities
  • Deploy and manage data platforms and data movement solutions both in the cloud and on-premise
  • Lead the reliability engineering efforts to ensure stability of services and infrastructure
  • Partner with Information Security professionals to ensure data is secure both at-rest and in-flight
  • Monitoring and ensuring the uptime of containers related our data platform
  • Maintaining the infrastructure of the data platform, including the troubleshooting network traffic, performance degradations, package updates, and deployment
  • Automate the deploy and maintenance of core infrastructure and services
  • Review and bring forward modern industry practices for scaling data workloads safely
  • Production support responsibilities for software and infrastructure issues
  • Work with software, infrastructure, network engineers, and DBAs to solve productivity challenges, drive efficiency, automate and streamline environment builds
  • Co-own (with teams) monitoring and alert configuration to detect, triage, and resolve issues quickly
  • Develop tools to enhance production triage and improve time-to-detect defects
  • Participate in on-call rotation and take charge of critical issues for outages and perform root cause analysis


Position Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in the deployment of data platforms and tools in a cloud environment
  • Experience working with cloud provider tools and architecture (AWS)
  • Experience using scripting languages such as bash, PowerShell, SQL and/or Python
  • Experience in running and scaling container infrastructure, preferably using AWS EKS
  • Experience in deploying and managing multi-node big data systems (Apache Airflow or Kafka)
  • Experience automating operations in Linux environments
  • Familiarity with deployment using Terraform or other infrastructure as code alternatives
  • Familiarity with build and automation tools, such as GitLab and Jenkins
