The Team: 451 Research's M&A Knowledgebase (MAKB) is the mergers and acquisitions database of 451 Research. 451 Research is a team of analysts focused on emerging and disruptive technologies and was acquired by S&P Global Market Intelligence in December 2019. The 451 MAKB team is seeking a detail-oriented and highly curious researcher to gather and process data and insight related to acquisition and funding of technology companies.

The Impact: This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual who wishes to deepen his or her experience in finance/M&A and learn about the technology industry while working in a rapidly growing and client-facing division. In this role, you will be contributing to a highly popular M&A database used by 80% of active technology investment bankers and by many of the most active technology acquirers.

As a Data Researcher, you will support the expansion, integrity and comprehensiveness of the database by utilizing external online research sources such as press releases, newswires, company websites and government & regulatory documents and internal sources to include, but not limited to, 451 analyst reports, CapIQ and Market Intelligence to collect, summarize, and synthesize meaningful information and enter it into the MAKB. You will also be responsible for helping to produce the 451 M&A Knowledgebase Newsletter, emailed daily to over 10,000 subscribers globally.

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $33,400 to $76,300.
Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive bonus plan.

Responsibilities:
  • Process data and apply it in an accurate manner to the database using 451 Research standards
  • Source and validate announced transactions for determination of coverage of data from multiple sources
  • Good understanding of public and private company financial data
  • Deliver on pre-defined daily deal entry deadlines for newsletter publishing with quality and efficiency
  • Build industry knowledge by understanding industry technology and M&A trends
  • Provide input and ideas for new and optimized methods and improvements related to the daily workflow
  • Troubleshoot problems or issues and provide support to the team
  • Ability to assist in training and cross-training of learned processes with other teams and interns
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to perform daily quality control on team workflow
  • Monitor and maintain multiple email submissions for inclusion of advisories into deal records and respond directly to client concerns and requests
  • Periodically produce daily newsletter working with the 451 Copy Desk for manager support
What We're Looking For:
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • High level of organization and self-direction
  • Strong writing skills
  • Previous experience producing and publishing newsletters/blogs, etc.
  • Experience with working with daily publishing deadlines and with copy editors and industry analysts directly
  • Genuine desire to learn more about technology and finance
  • Meticulous attention to detail, accuracy and persistent approach to work
  • Excellent online research and analytical skills
  • Consistent display of taking initiative and demonstrating resourcefulness
Basic Qualifications & Skills Required:
  • Academic Qualifications - Bachelor's/Master's degree or equivalent; an advanced degree in a related field is welcome
  • Prior experience related to technology and/or finance research is a plus
  • Proficiency in using MS Office, PathFinder and Celsus is helpful
  • Prior newsletter production experience is a plus
