We're looking for an International Tax Manager to join our EMEA Tax team in London. The role will report directly to the EMEA Head of Tax and work closely with the International Tax Director in London as well as the wider tax team in the US, Belgium and Germany.

This role involves understanding and applying direct tax legislation to advise on complex group initiatives, M&A and international restructuring projects. The candidate should have a strong UK tax technical background but also an understanding of international tax matters to advise on cross-border transactions, ideally in the financial services industry.

Main responsibilities include:
  • Support the International Tax Director to partner with the asset management and banking businesses, legal, finance and the wider tax department to evaluate and implement strategies to achieve the global effective tax rate, e.g. managing the tax impacts of EMEA and APAC business restructurings and initiatives, producing appropriate written materials and analyses for both the business and tax audiences.
  • Assist the International Tax Director and EMEA Head of Tax in transfer pricing and international tax elements of the Group's compliance, e.g. review and update of existing transfer pricing policies, intercompany agreements, local files, tracking ex-Americas country by country reporting requirements and advising on permanent establishment risks.
  • Play an active role in the group's relationship with HMRC, focused on the international aspects of UK tax compliance. Dealing with HMRC enquiries in respect of complex group restructurings, international aspects and transfer pricing. Providing support to the business and finance teams in respect of ex-Americas tax audits.
  • Evaluate UK and international tax developments and communicate to the wider tax team, finance and the business. Support the International Tax Director and EMEA Head of Tax on group lobbying efforts
  • Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with external advisers, key contacts in the lines of business and business partner groups within BNYM across multiple jurisdictions.

Skills requirements

The International Tax Manager should have the following experience and personal attributes:
  • Qualified ACA / CTA (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 4-6 years tax experience in a large group environment or advisory firm.
  • Strong UK tax technical background with minimum 2 years recent international tax and transfer pricing experience ideally in the banking and/or asset management sectors
  • US based multinational experience a plus
  • Ability to work independently and to drive a project forward
  • Strong judgement and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication and networking skills; able to explain tax concepts in an appropriate way to a wider business audience
  • Strong team player
  • Ability to prioritise and organise multiple on-going projects
