The Team

The three-person technical analysis team at Redburn offers global trend analysis to over 2,000 clients of the firm. Our products offer a global insight into market trends together with a stock selection process for clients to use alongside their investment process.

The Position

We are looking to hire a Market Data Analyst to help our global client base use technical analysis to maximize their investment performance.

The team is currently technically dependent on VBA and Excel with some Python scripting but is looking to integrate the system into Redburn's larger technical infrastructure and help the team scale client output and streamline internal processes. We are looking for someone who can manage the legacy system while planning and building the new processes. The role would therefore suit someone with proven experience using Excel, VBA, Python and SQL with a keen disposition to understand how equity markets work.

The team works closely with other internal departments and the candidate is expected to build on those relationships.

The role will involve:
  • The management and creation of all regular and bespoke technical research through a series of Datastream and Excel VBA macros
  • Understanding current data flows and be the main contact for resolving system issues
  • Work with other areas within Redburn, such as the systematic research team and IT department to design and build a new data flow for the Technical Analysis team
  • This is a front office role and therefore the candidate will be required to be available in market hours to support the front office analysts with technical issues
  • Examining portfolios and assisting clients with strategies, stock picking and asset allocation
  • Creating and distributing regular and bespoke documents for clients as well as having a proactive approach to clients' requests and the team's needs.

Candidate Profile
  • Degree level education (2.1 or above) - ideally in a STEM subject/discipline (required)
  • Proven knowledge of Python and SQL. T-SQL preferred but other experience considered
  • Confident using raw data and data processing techniques in Excel and Excel VBA
  • Knowledge of Azure or other cloud technologies is an advantage but not a requirement
  • Can demonstrate a strong interest in financial markets. Relevant market experience and/or a relevant technical qualification is highly desirable.
  • Able to think critically, engage in analysis and make decisions
  • Excellent communication skills and presentation skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Holding the STA Diploma or equivalent qualification would be advantageous
