Valuation Governance Manager

Reporting into Head of Asset Valuations
The Investment Data & Reporting Services function deliver investment data services for M&G plc, our customers and the regulators. This role represents an exciting opportunity to be part of the Asset Valuations function, focussed on the assurance and delivery of accurate and timely pricing for an extensive range of liquid and hard to value asset classes. The successful candidate will be an expert in valuations and the knowledgeable of the governance required to meet increasing demands of the Auditors and Regulators.

Manager or Expert:
  • For people managers, accountable for managing and motivating others to ensure quality of delivery to customers and stakeholders
  • For technical specialists, accountable for delivering expert advice or service, using specialist knowledge and subject matter expertise
  • Applies judgement to deliver outcomes, evaluating a range of potential solutions, considering the impact for customers, cost and risk
  • Manages conflicts that may impact delivery
  • Challenges upwards given knowledge of delivery and awareness of complex systems and the broader picture
  • Identifies and anticipates need for changes to continuously improve quality and efficiency of output
  • Manages resources and risks using expert judgment, know-how and experience

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advisor for the business of views of best practise, audit and regulator expectations pertaining to Valuation.
  • To support and provide input into the main valuation committee responsible for valuation activity at M&G - The Valuation sub Committee (VsC)
    • Update and manage policy documentation owned by the Valuation Committee
    • Review papers going into the VsC for appropriateness
    • Maintenance of Corporate Calendar/agenda to ensure appropriate topics are discussed
    • Efficient operation of the meeting and circulate of input/output
    • Ensure Chair is appropriately prepared and informed ahead of the meeting
    • Assistance in the closure of VsC actions
  • To engage with key stakeholders to ensure the valuation framework is adhered to and create KPI/MI to evidence
  • To support the business in ensuring valuation activity is managed in a controlled environment with appropriate governance and oversight from the VsC
  • To work with Compliance to ensure regulatory changes and impacts on valuations are effectively communicated to key stakeholders and implemented into valuation activity.
  • Coordinate and support the valuation Audits and SMEs
  • Support business in opportunities to outsource valuation activity and ensure appropriate oversight model
  • Ownership of client due diligence coordination and valuation representation


Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  • Strong understanding of financial markets and valuations for instruments across various asset classes (Fixed Income, Equities, ETD & OTC Derivatives, Leveraged Loans, Private Debt & Equity).
  • Experience of valuation governance frameworks and techniques;
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of pricing with experience working with key vendors including IHS Markit, Bloomberg.
  • Understanding of valuations within the investment industry, with the ability to apply best practices.
  • Good experience representing a valuations team, working with Auditors, Clients and risk functions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills - can summarise findings, themes and recommendations.
  • Understanding of an Asset Management organisation.
  • Proactive self-starter, with the ability to identify problems and follow them through to resolution.
  • Take pride in working to a high standard in a dynamic environment.
  • Appreciation and experience of the requirements of an operational control environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills attention to detail, and ability to work efficiently to set deadlines.
  • Ability to generate and maintain positive relationships within the team and across the business.
  • Experience of data visualisation tools such as Power BI.

Beneficial:
  • Good working knowledge of the Blackrock Aladdin system.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with ability to use VBA.
  • Knowledge of SQL.
  • IMC / CFA qualification.
