Business Overview:

Multi-Asset Strategy & Solutions (MASS) is the investment group at the heart of BlackRock's portfolio construction, asset allocation, and active management ecosystem. MASS draws on the full toolkit of BlackRock's index, factor, and alpha-seeking investment capabilities to deliver precise investment outcomes and cutting-edge alpha insights. MASS constructs active asset allocation strategies and whole portfolio solutions across a wide spectrum of commingled funds, separate accounts, model portfolios, and outsourcing solutions in the wealth and institutional channels.

The MASS Australia team has been a leading manager of multi-asset portfolios and delivering consistent top quartile performance for 30 years, underpinned by its core skill in strategic asset allocation, portfolio construction and risk management. The team manages approximately AUD $40 billion in AUM across bespoke multi-asset solutions, diversified funds model portfolios, and hedge funds.

Role Description

BlackRock is seeking an experienced strategist to join the MASS Australia team; based in Sydney, as part of a team of strategists focused on multi-asset. The role is a generalist MASS Strategist across all MASS Australia products and solutions, including diversified funds, ESG funds, custom solutions, hedge funds and model portfolios. A MASS Strategist acts as the interface between the Portfolio Manager and the distribution team, as the product specialist, providing product expertise, sales support, regular performance commentary, ad-hoc analysis, marketing, and product life cycle support. As the interface between the Portfolio Managers and the Client Business, success in this role will require strong analytical and quantitative skills, willingness to learn a broad range of product types, an interest in global markets, and a team player with strong communication skills and a passion to work in a dynamic and growing business. The ideal candidate will have experience with multi-asset strategy and should possess the ability to collaborate effectively, both within the Australia office, and with the broader BlackRock community. The successful candidate will have strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with a preference for CFA or other similar qualification.

Who are we looking for?

MASS Australia Product Strategists serve as not only the specialists for the individual multi-asset strategies, but also as general ambassadors for the overall multi-asset platform and solutions. The role requires an individual who has both a commercial orientation, as well as the ability to be highly credible as an investment professional. The ideal candidate will be excellent insightful communicator to clients, have a strong sense of the sales process, and familiarity/interest with wide range of multi-asset portfolios or cross asset markets and products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a general Strategist in the MASS Australia Strategy team, supporting the broader MASS Strategy team all products and solutions within the MASS Australia business, including funds, models and mandates.
  • Be responsible for day-to-day deliverables, including:
    • Preparing and maintaining portfolio review decks, ensuring these meet compliance practices,
    • Preparing and maintaining product pitch-books and other standard client collateral such as factsheets, performance reports, worksheets, and internal updates
    • Assisting with ad hoc requests (e.g., performance analytics / attribution, bespoke reporting),
    • Updating/drafting RFPs and RFIs with the Client Business,
    • Responding to and delivering product information to support Consultant and Rating Agency requests for information and analysis; and
    • Delivering other materials, responding to ad-hoc requests for analysis or product information from partners such as the client business, legal & compliance, finance & accounting teams
  • Help improve existing processes with new insights/automation and developing best practices across the global Product Strategy platform.
  • Contribute to the broader MASS team, working closely with the Portfolio Management team to support and drive the MASS business.
  • Remain current on developments in global financial markets and economics, with a focus on the Australia markets; including the views expressed by the BlackRock Investment Institute research.
  • Support the development of new products and solutions from inception to launch.
  • Become a fluent user of our technology system, Aladdin, to support and scale the MASS Strategy processes.

Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum 2+ years of asset management industry or in other financial services
  • CFA charter holder preferred
  • Knowledge, curiosity and desire to learn financial markets and Investments
  • Strong attention to detail, a sense of urgency around deadlines and act constructively
  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in Python or coding skills preferred, familiarity with investment tools such as Eikon.
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: capable of connecting with multiple audiences and adapting style of communication to suit with local and global audience
  • Must possess a strong work ethic, and must be a team player with the ability to work well under pressure
