Overview:

Securian Asset Management is seeking a Senior Corporate Bond Analyst to support the growth of our public bond portfolios including both high grade and high yield credit.  The position is accountable for helping the research team achieve the investment objectives of various portfolio strategies within SAM.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Ongoing surveillance of current holdings with the goal of right sizing risk to align with current fundamental viewpoints applying the following: updated company thesis, internal rating assessment, evaluation of earnings, and maintenance of credit designations.
  • Oversight of primary and secondary corporate market including: timely new issue recommendations, fair value targets, secondary ideas expressed through credit designations, swap ideas, and an awareness of the corporate index composition and constituents.
  • Recurring industry analysis meant to identify inflection points within an analyst’s coverage expressed through fundamental outlook (supported by sector drivers, median fundamentals, and proprietary score) and recommendation (based on relative value). Sector evaluation also incorporates elements of ESG to increase awareness of a given sector’s risk to these factors.
  • Projects/experiments meant to creatively enhance and improve the credit research process including (but not limited to) leveraging various technology platforms.
  • Cross-sector support and debate. Marketing availability/support and content generation.

Qualifications:

  • Five Years of demonstrated investment research success in a liability-driven and/or total return environment (high yield experience a plus) in an analyst role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to make objective recommendations and defend viewpoints.
  • Strong math and analytical skills including a strong understanding of financial accounting. Ability to distill and communicate critical issues and assumptions.
  • A broad understanding of financial markets and risk models supported by a background in math, economics or statistics.
  • A high level of curiosity, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to teamwork.
  • Experience utilizing research tools such as Bloomberg, Factset and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience covering the Energy sector.
  • Currently have or are working towards an MBA and/or CFA.
  • Some experience in programming and/or data analytics.

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
  • Ability to utilize telephone for 2-4 hours per day
