Macquarie's Green Investment Group is looking for a Head of EMEA Development to support its rapidly growing global energy storage business.

Green Investment Group's global energy storage business develops, builds, owns and operates grid scale battery storage projects across a number of markets globally including Australia and the UK. This role is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join the team as the business looks to move to the next phase of growth in becoming a global market leader.

In this newly created role, you will lead the EMEA development team in the identification and appraisal of new opportunities and in the planning, development, and delivery of the pipeline of energy storage projects through the development phase with the objective of handing over fully developed high quality assets to the construction team. You will work on all aspects of energy storage project development covering land, grid and planning/permitting and will manage all stakeholders in pursuit of the projects becoming 'ready to build'.

Based in London, you will build a team and work with advisers and partners to deliver all consent, permit and stakeholder engagement, and development requirements on all EMEA energy storage projects, initially in an origination stage and thereafter through Development and Construction periods. Your role will comprise the following key responsibilities for our EMEA region development activities:
  • Collect market intelligence including competitive landscapes, market practices and trends by interfacing with market participants such as developers, construction companies, equipment suppliers and specialized service providers
  • Monitor government policies, laws & regulations changes, market trends related to BESS project development, and apply key take-aways to the business strategy
  • Develop the 'in house' development strategy and processes and build the internal capability to develop assets
  • Proactively manage the development process including identifying key risks to project delivery and managing budget and funding to minimise potential losses due to delays or failure to secure projects.
  • Oversee development partners to deliver development plans across the portfolio of projects including resourcing and budget planning.
  • Prepare and submit the permit application documents and obtain the permits in timely manner persuading relevant stakeholders
  • Interface with technical team for them to provide necessary design & engineering outcomes to be included in the permit applications in accurate and timely manner
  • Manage scoping, tendering and contracting processes to engage required advisors such as local engineering company, licensed administrative agent for the permitting and consenting purpose
  • Manage permitting milestone schedule, including identification of critical path, allocation of tasks to relevant parties and optimization of the plan in regular basis
  • Report and advise key development issues to the team to build and manage overall project development strategy
  • Identify key stakeholders of the project and establish & implement the stakeholder management strategy and build proper relationships with key stakeholders and draw necessary supports in timely manner
  • Secure required land and right of ways for the construction works.

You will have minimum of ten years' experience working in energy and infrastructure project development, preferably in renewables sector. As an experienced consent manager, you will be expected to lead and coach other team members to enhance their capability advancement. You will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of local laws & regulations, development procedures, and market practices. You will bring an extensive experience of consenting and stakeholder engagement, strong commercial acumen, respect and authority to be the local lead and project representative for the project in the community.

You will have an excellent academic record and a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical or structural engineering, law, geology, environmental science or a project management related qualification.

You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise at all levels. You will need to be ambitious, motivated and have the drive to succeed. Being a team player, in addition to having strong quantitative and analytical skills will be crucial to your success. Strong written and verbal skills in English and ideally at least one other European language are also required.

An interest and willingness to work with your regional counterparts is a must.
